Bourg followed up a 0-0 opening day draw against Strasbourg with a harsh 0-1 defeat at Reims last week. I’m not really sure how they lost that game because it felt like they had enough chances to earn at least a point. At least the performance was encouraging and much better than what they managed against Strasbourg. Another positive was how they came from 0-2 down to draw 2-2 against Auxerre in the cup. However, it all ended in tears as they were knocked out on penalties. Bourg have an immediate chance for revenge tonight as both teams look for their first win of the season. At the time of writing, the full makeup of the Bourg squad hasn't been announced yet. They’ve been dealing with the odd injury here and there, but nothing too significant which will change them dramatically.
AJA have one point on the board but might feel like they should have more. The were the better team on the opening day at Red Star but could only draw 0-0, whilst last week they fell to a home defeat vs GFCA. A combination of individual errors and poor finishing was to blame in that clash. AJA are still fairly hard to work out under new coach Viorel Moldovan. Perhaps last week and in the midweek cup we saw a sign of things to come in that they were willing to be more open and have a go. He has promised attacking football, good on the eye and quite a lot of this team is good technically which should help in that regard. No new injuries for Auxerre, although a trio of defenders remain out. Also, still no sign of striker Yoann Touzghar who is awaiting finalisation of his move.
Conclusion & betting analysis
I’m not sure which way this match will go but I think it’ll be an exciting encounter. The midweek cup fixture between the two sides ended 2-2 and I could see something similar occurring again. Bourg-en-Bresse were naturally one of the most attacking sides in Ligue 2 last year and really pushed hard in most of their home games. They weren’t given many opportunities by Strasbourg on the opening day, but there’s a more open feel to Auxerre and I sense Moldovan won’t come here looking for just a draw. He was a striker in his playing days so is probably more of a natural gambler. I’ve seen enough from both of these sides to suggest that this’ll be an over match. The goal line is set at 2.25 and I’ll have a piece of the overs @ 2.06. This looks an acceptable bet, even if you are always rolling the dice with any sort of over in French football. I just sense both will fancy their chances of victory which should lead to a slightly more open game.
Recommended bet 1 unit: Over 2.25 goals @ 2.06 (minimum odds acceptable 1.90)
