France Ligue 2 – Nimes v Amiens Preview (26/8/16)

NO-AM

Nimes preview

In recent years, Nimes always seemed to start the season slowly. The exact same thing has happened this campaign and they simply haven't gotten out of the blocks yet. Les Crocos are winless in four games, and whilst they haven't looked too bad at times, something just isn’t right. It seems like they can never produce a complete performance for the full 90 mins, something always lets them down. In my personal opinion, the most blindingly obvious issue is scoring goals. Chances are being created but they don’t appear to have many clinical players this season. Too many players departed during the summer who scored plenty for them last season, and so far the new guys haven't delivered. Nimes are at full strength for this encounter with no major injuries to worry about.

Amiens preview

The visitors have been a real surprise so far and are currently residing as high as sixth place following back to back victories. On paper, they probably have the worst team in the whole of Ligue 2 but football matches aren't won on paper and Amiens are playing quite well at the moment. I think it’s fair to say they havent looked out of place in this division and have been extremely competitive in all of their fixtures so far. It might be that I am wrong about them being the whipping boys this term. There’s a lot of heart and spirit in this team and in general they've actually kept things really tight at the back. It was impressive how comfortably they held back Lens last week, prevailing 1-0. On loan striker from Montpellier Quentin Cornette might be out for the season with an ACL injury suffered in training this week, but apart from his loss they are close to full strength.

Conclusion & betting analysis

This seems like a tough match to predict. Right now, Amiens are better than I expected and I don’t think it’s a great time to be betting against them. It actually wouldn't surprise me if they rocked up and won today. Nimes miss too many chances for my liking and they are unlikely to get that many tonight facing a defence which has played quite well this season. So it could be a frustrating night for the hosts again. All four matches of both teams have ended under 2.5 this season and I’d imagine the same will happen again. I have a feeling both teams will score in a 1-1 draw though. This just isn’t a fixture I want to get involved in and I’m happy to leave it alone betting wise.
