France Ligue 2 – Tours v Strasbourg Preview (12/8/16)

TFC-RCS

Tours preview

TFC have drawn both of their ligue 2 games thus far, but I think it’s fair to say they haven't impressed an awful lot. On the opening day of the season, Fabien Mercadal’s men were extremely lucky to obtain a 0-0 at home to Ajaccio. They were easily second best and struggled in all areas of the pitch. Last week they came close to beating Lens but succumbed to an injury time equaliser. It must also be mentioned they played against 10 men for well over an hour of that contest, so had a big advantage. Tours were disappointing in the midweek cup, not putting up much of a fight at Orleans (0-1). I have seen worse but TFC don’t seem in a great state right now. Their offence looks a bit flat and they are making mistakes at the back. Off the field they continue to be in the headlines for the wrong reasons too. Some local journalists weren't allowed into their last home game due to the president taking offence at one of their articles. Fullback Ibrahim Cisse is doubtful because of injury but the rest of the squad seems in good health.

Strasbourg preview

Le Racing have yet to concede a goal in any competition this season. On Tuesday night they beat Niort in the cup 1-0, and that scoreline might be a big trait of theirs this season. They relied heavily upon defence and clean sheets to obtain promotion last term, now again it looks like a solid backline is going to set their foundations. The coach managed to rest and rotate some players for the midweek match, although sadly striker Baptiste Guillaume is injured and out of action for two weeks. There’s a good feeling within this Strasbourg team at the moment and they seem incredibly difficult to break down. The Alsace outfit won’t win any beauty prize contests yet, but if you want a clean sheet then RCS are the team for you! In their one previous away game this season, a 0-0 draw was obtained at Bourg-en-Bresse. However, Strasbourg created enough opportunities there to win the game and will need to be more clinical here if they’re to take three points back with them.

Conclusion & betting analysis

I’d be surprised if Strasbourg lost this game. They are pretty hard to beat and seem in good form at the moment, Their defensive organisation and discipline is excellent. Tours meanwhile, don't really convince me at the moment. They have started the season in relatively poor fashion and if they play like they did against Ajaccio then I don’t think they’ll be as lucky to avoid defeat. Unfortunately, the bookies aren’t offering an awful lot of value here. Strasbourg are only on a DNB line @ 2.02. This is probably too short for a newly promoted team in just its third game of the season. I do rate the visitors but it’s not like they are tearing up any trees with their displays. I see something like a 0-1 or 0-2 away win myself. Are Strasbourg really a power team at this level yet? It’s highly debatable, so they are probably poor value @ these odds. I do think they will win though and in this instance my confidence that they won’t lose has led me to a decision which says ‘back them’. This might be a potentially silly move but I just feel like it's a good time to be siding with RCS.

Prediction: 0-1
Recommended bet 1 unit: Strasbourg DNB @ 2.02 (minimum odds acceptable 1.90)
