France Ligue 2 – Troyes v Laval Preview (12/8/16)

TROYES-LAV

Troyes preview

Things just go from bad to worse for Troyes. They are bottom of the Ligue 2 table after losing both of their matches. ESTAC are now also out of the Coupe de la Ligue after falling 0-1 at Laval on Tuesday night. At least they now have a chance of some instant revenge but confidence seems really low in the camp. One must remember that this is a team coming off the back of an horrendous Ligue 1 campaign in which they hardly won a match. A lot of players have come in and out of the club and new coach Jean Louis Garcia knows he has a tough job on his hands here. Troyes have one new injury for tonight which is to right back Jeremy Cordival. He hasn’t been in great form so it might be a blessing in disguise. As always, there are a sprinkling of other injuries within their saud, including important midfielder Thiago Xavier who remains sidelined. The coach has talked about a change of formation here, switching from a 4-5-1 to a 4-4-2 diamond. It looks like ESTAC might be more positive tonight.

Laval preview

Les Tangos have drawn both of their matches in the ligue and this is certainly no surprise. It’s highly likely they end up with the most all square games out of anyone this season, it's simply the way they operate. Coach Denis Zanko is more than happy to pick up a one point haul whenever he can against anyone, anywhere. Laval don’t really change their set up either at home or away. On the road they are a bit more negative and even harder to break down. But in general you know exactly what you're going to get with this side, there aren’t many surprises. A couple of negatives for Les Tangos tonight is that they’ll be missing two starting defenders. Both Malik Couturier & Aaron Appindangoye are injured and this could affect their solidity at the back.

Conclusion & betting analysis

As aforementioned, these two teams met each other in the midweek cup and Laval came out on top 1-0. It was generally a really tight game and not much between the teams. I expect something similar again and this will likely be a match containing few chances. Troyes will probably be more proactive but it’ll be hard to break down a Laval side who routinely make it difficult for opponents with their ‘anti-football’ style. Troyes simply don't have the confidence or patience right now to deal with that sort of thing, so it could be a really frustrating night for ESTAC. It’s a shame the hosts aren’t playing someone better than Laval. I really don’t rate either side and I’d love to bet against Troyes here. But the price on Les Tangos is poor. Lets not forget they are an extremely limited side themselves, who have one of the poorest squads on paper in Ligue 2. Literally anything could happen here, but the way Troyes are playing at the moment they’ll probably find a way to lose the game. Therefore, I’ll predict Laval to pile on their misery by winning something like 1-0 in a really ugly match.
