Norway Eliteserien – Valerenga v Rosenborg Preview (28/5/17)

Match Preview

It looks to me like all the value is with Valerenga +0.5 and possibly under 2.5 goals as well. I was badly burnt by Rosenborg last week when they could only draw against Lillestrom. I expected a much better performance but they were awful again, as they have been for large parts of this season. A 9-1 cup win in midweek might re-ignite them a bit, but until I see them perform well again in the league then I won’t be betting on RBK. It wouldn't surprise me if they suddenly turned it on again here against a big rival, but I am much less confident about the champions these days. I’m going to leave the game alone, You can bet your bottom dollar if I went against RBK here they would rock up and play well! But I don’t think Valerenga will lose this affair and the hosts could be some value.

Norway Eliteserien – Brann v Aalesund Preview (28/5/17)

Match Preview

This should be a good game of football and a very interesting watch. We have a Brann side who have surprised everyone this season with their goalscoring ability. Whether that will continue remains to be seen. I still think they are mostly built on strong solid foundations and this remains their biggest weapon. Aalesund have been in great form since last July really, with the exception of a couple of sloppy games at the start of this campaign. For me, any value lies with the visitors. They are a pretty good team and the gulf in class between these two sides isn't as great as the bookies indicate. That said, there’s no way I’d bet against Brann at home because they are so strong here. Something tells me this will either be a wide open game, or very cagey. So it makes backing the goals over or under difficult to predict. Overall, I think this is a good game to watch, but not a good one to bet in pre-match.

Prediction: 2-1

Norway Eliteserien – Molde v Stabaek Preview (28/5/17)

Match Preview

This fixture has a history of goals, and I wouldn’t be at all surprised if it ended over 2.5. However, my prefered pick is Stabaek +0.5. I think the visitors are seriously underestimated side, whilst Molde are probably a little bit overrated. MFK have only won 1 of their last 6 matches, which came last weekend and was an undeserved success at Odd. They aren’t playing particularly well and I could see Stabaek causing all sorts of problems on the counter attack. Both teams could score and maybe something like a 1-1 draw or a 1-2 away win is possible. I’m happy to take Stabaek +0.5, this is the sort of fixture they might thrive in.

Prediction: 1-2

Recommended bet 1 unit: Stabaek +0.5 @2.02 (minimum odds acceptable 1.95)

Norway Eliteserien – Lillestrom v Tromso Preview (28/5/17)

Match Preview

I really have no idea how Lillestrom are odds-on here. It’s true they deserve to be favourites, but not by that much of a margin. LSK are one of the poorest teams in the league and their style limits any decent technical abilities their players have. They are long ball merchants and have nobody upfront who can score at the moment. Tromso have similar problems finishing chances but are quite an underrated team, nice on the eye to watch. I feel they are much better suited away from home these days, a far cry from the days when they travelled so poorly. I don’t think they’ll lose this match so I’m more than happy to back the visitors on a +0.5 handicap.

Prediction: 1-2

Recommended bet 1 unit: Tromso +0.5 @1.97 (minimum odds acceptable 1.75)

Norway Eliteserien – Kristiansund v Sogndal Preview (28/5/17)

Match Preview

I like Kristiansund at home and I don't believe they'll lose many matches here this season. They are a hard working unit who have the ability to keep things tight. Their last match was a 3-2 goal bonanza against Haugesund, but I think the second half of that encounter was a bit of a freak. This will probably be a much tighter encounter and one goal either way could decide matters. In some ways I’d love to have a nibble on both Kristiansund -0.25 and Under 2.25. But I think the bookies are spot on with their lines in this instance. Gurt feeling for something like 1-0 KBK, but I won’t get involved.

Prediction: 1-0

Norway Eliteserien – Haugesund v Sarpsborg Preview (28/5/17)

Match Preview

According to my estimations, Haugesund are a bit of value here. However, I could be underestimating Sarpsborg a bit in fairness so I’m willing to ignore this for now. My feeling is the visitors will grind out a hard fought close win. Haugesund haven’t been playing great of late and their lack of goals is a worry. Conditions never seem to be great at this venue so a probable under 2.5 match is my call, but I’m happy to leave the game alone from a betting point of view.

Prediction: 0-1

MLS – FC Dallas v Houston Dynamo Preview (28/5/17)

Match Preview

Dallas lost in midweek, 2-1 away against Chicago Fire. This was the first time they suffered back to back defeats in well over a year! That is a tremendous record in MLS but those two setbacks don't worry me at all. They totally dominated San Jose last weekend, yet came up against an inspired defence and goalkeeper (0-1). In Chicago midweek they only fielded three first team regulars, with a number of key players sat back at home in Dallas preparing for this massive weekend contest against their most bitter rivals. In the Texan derby, the stakes are high and both teams will be giving 110% to prevail.

Houston, quite frankly do have a massive problem away from home, if you’ll excuse the pun! They've lost all 5/5 road contests, with a horrible 3:14 goal differential which simply isn’t good enough. Their players are simply too soft on the road and don’t really have the guile or solid tactics to frustrate anyone. The big strength of Houston lies with their fast pacey attackers like Quioto, Ellis, Manotas & Torres. They will certainly pose a threat to the Dallas defence, but the bigger problem is at the other end where they’ve simply shipped in far too many goals on their travels.

I totally got my fingers burnt backing Dallas last week against San Jose. But I really felt they were unlucky to lose and came up against a team inspired at the back. There is absolutely no way that Houston will be able to offer up anywhere near as much resistance. The threat that the Dynamo have is in a different area upfront. They may well score which is one of the reasons why I like the idea of backing over 2.75 goals. Dallas are a -1 Asian Handicap favourite around the even money mark and this is good enough for me to take as well. Houston have such a poor road record and facing perhaps the best MLS team in their own backyard is likely to be a step too far. This is a Texan derby, so maybe the formbook can’t be considered quite so much, but I’m still confident enough to go with two selections here.

Prediction: 3-1

Recommended bet 1 unit: Dallas -1 (Asian) @1.99 (minimum odds acceptable 1.90)

Recommended bet 1 unit: Over 2.75 goals @2.02 (minimum odds acceptable (1.71)

MLS – Atlanta United v New York City FC Preview (28/5/17)

Match Preview

Two of the most exciting teams in MLS meet here and it should be pulsating clash.  Atlanta have the worst home record in the Eastern Conference, and New York City one of the best on the road. But don’t let this fool anyone. United have only played four games in front of their own fans, suffering a couple of harsh defeats in the process. They looked excellent against Houston last weekend, claiming a comfortable 4-1 win. Atlanta are well led by coach Gerardo Martino and play a lovely technical style which is nice on the eye to watch. On playmaker Miguel Almiron, they perhaps have the best player in the entire league right now, certainly in terms of form. Key striker Josef Martinez remains out injured, although is very close to a return and could possibly feature on the bench here.

New York City have had their ups and downs this season but right now appear to be in a good phase and are quite hot. They’ve only lost 1 of their last 5, and that particular defeat at RSL can almost be ignored because they rested half of their team due to fatigue in that clash. City caught the eye when they hammered Orlando 3-0 in Florida last week, one of the best away performances in MLS to date this season. When you look at the quality NYC possess on paper, it’s obvious they have to be respected anywhere, when in the right sort of mood. I would be a shock if they didn’t raise their level a bit here considering who the opposition are.

I would say the best NYC have played this season was in the reverse fixture in New York, which they won 3-1. So with that in mind it would probably be too risky to back Atlanta, even if their price isn't too bad. I actually think the home team will win here, but I respect City enough not to bet against them. Atlanta are on a -0.5 Asian Handicap around the 2.05 mark, and I wouldn’t want to put anyone off backing them. My personal preferred pick is over 3.25 goals though. These two teams look to match up extremely well in terms of style. Each love to attack and move the ball with pace, flair and skill. I think there will be a lot of chances here and surely enough of them will be taken for an over bet to cover. The line is set quite high at 3.25 but I’m still happy to back it. At worst, I could envisage a half loss but I see at least four goals being scored. It wouldn't surprise me if this game ended something silly like 3-2 either way.

Prediction: 3-2

Recommended bet 1 unit: Over 3.25 goals @2.01 (minimum odds acceptable 1.80)

MLS – Seattle Sounders v Real Salt Lake Preview (20/5/17)

Match Preview

Seattle are in a bit of a mess after having lost all of their last three games. The most recent two were real batterings 1-4 and 0-3 at Chicago & SKC respectively. However, I don’t personally think they were that bad in either contest. In midweek they totally dominated SKC yet somehow went in at the interval level at 0-0. Sooner or later Seattle will take their chances and give someone a real battering of their own. There’s every chance that could happen here because RSL aren’t a particularly good side by any means. Yes, they won in midweek but New York City rested a lot of players and even in that they were unconvincing.

RSL have lost 4 out of 6 road games and generally struggled to score many goals. The only time they managed to net was at Minnesota and Colorado. I do think they could score here but they will probably concede some as well. RSL have suffered a lot of injuries this season, and whilst their absentee list isn’t as extensive today, the actual physical condition of a number of players, especially at the back could be potentially poor. I think this will be quite an open game of football containing a lot of chances. Ultimately, Seattle should win but their 12.5 handicap is a bit skinny, even though it should probably cover. I like backing over 2.75 goals and feel the potential is there for at least three goals to be scored.

Prediction: 3-1

Recommended bet 1 unit: Over 2.75 goals @1.83 (minimum odds acceptable 1.65)
