Norway Eliteserien – Odd v Lillestrom Preview (23/10/17)

Match Preview

I think this will be quite a low scoring match. Not many Odd fixtures have contained a bunch of goals this season and no team has scored less than them this season. The problem is in attack where chances continue to be spurned. However, chances are at least being created so sooner or later there will be a match when someone is clinical. Odd have a strong 8-2-2 home record and have won their last four straight in front of their own fans. They are usually decent here so this is no real surprise. Lillestrom returned to winning ways last week with a vital 1-0 victory against Sogndal. They are far from safe so need every point they can right now. Under 2.75 goals is a tempting bet and if Odd were a bigger price, I’d have a nibble. But on this particular Monday night, I’m not in a betting mood.

France Ligue 2 – Ajaccio v GFC Ajaccio Preview Preview (23/10/17)

Match Preview

It’s good to see this match get it’s own slot on a Monday night in front of the cameras. It’s one of the few ‘true’ derbies in French football between two fierce city rivals, but at the same time both clubs will always be united by a Corsican bond. Passions will be high, the atmosphere great and I expect an intense game of football. Both matches last season ended up as ‘home’ wins, but it’s one of those situations where home advantage doesn't quite count for as much compared to normal. Heading into the game, Ajaccio are riding high in 2nd place, whilst GFCA are as low as 15th. But form and league position can sometimes mean nothing in a derby match like this one.

I have said before how it’s a shame Albert Cartier took over in charge of GFCA this season. He is a negative and more defensive manager and it wastes a lot of the decent attacking talent GFCA have/had at this club. Seeing him before in big games for Metz and Sochaux the likelihood is that Cartier will just look to play a safe game, keeping things tight. I think this will be a very ‘bitty’ sort of fixture, with loads of free kicks and stuff like that. It’s unlikely the game will have any sort of real rhythm. A low scoring encounter is likely. Neither team will want to lose and whilst AC Ajaccio are currently plying the better football, a point wouldn't be the worst outcome for them. I think it’s a match to swerve betting wise, but I would say a 0-0 or 1-1 draw is most likely.

Norway Eliteserien – Sogndal v Sarpsborg Preview (22/10/17)

Match Preview

I really don’t think this’ll be a classic by any means. Sogndal are fighting for their lives at the bottom of the table and will graft for everything in a rather unappealing fashion. It’s all about results now though and this is a team that has a knack of getting them when push comes to shove. Sarpsborg have now moved down to third position but draw too many matches for my liking. They are hard to beat and if this ended all square nobody could be surprised. I think there’s slight value on the home team +0.25 but it could be dangerous backing them.

Norway Eliteserien – Sandefjord v Stromsgodset Preview (22/10/17)

Match Preview

Sandefjord don’t look a bad price here, they are maybe underrated a bit today. Performance wise they weren't very good at Haugesund last week but I expect a reaction today, plus Sandefjord are always much better at home possessing a 7-2-3 record, with 2 of the defeats against Rosenborg and Brann which is no disgrace. However, Stromsgodset have been in fine form for quite a while and I have to admit are the most likely victors today. They've only lost once since early July which is a terrific record. I was tempted by Sandefjord +0.25 but in the end I’ll leave this one alone. Truth be told I see a draw anyway and quite a low scoring contest. The weather forecast is poor all day which won't help matters.

Norway Eliteserien – Molde v Haugesund Preview (22/10/17)

Match Preview

I think this will probably be a tight contest. Neither team is particularly looking great offensively right now, especially with Molde potential missing key players in this area, or guys starting banged up. There is a strange head to head history when these two teams meet, the away team seemingly often does well. I could see a draw here, I don’t think much will separate either side come the final whistle. Under 2.75 looks like a good bet. I think the line is wrong and set too high. Molde have actually had more overs than any other team in the league this season, but Haugesund can suck them into a low scorer here.

Prediction: 1-1

France Ligue 1 – Marseille v PSG Preview (22/10/17)

Match Preview

So the big Le Classique match and I desperately hope Marseille can be competitive here. PSG smashed them in this fixture 5-1 last season and have won on all of their last five visits to Le Stade Velodrome. In general, the visitors tend to reserve some of their best football for this fixture so it could get ugly if key players are in the mood, which I expect they will be. Marseille have got to find a way to somehow restrict PSG, but at the same time also need to maintain threat themselves. It will be interesting to see the tactical gameplan manager Rudi Garcia uses. He managed to draw 0-0 in Paris last year using a negative style, but this is a much better PSG team now.

There is no doubt in my mind that PSG can be targeted at the back. I personally think they've looked more prone to conceding this year, but it usually doesn’t matter because they score so many themselves. I’m really not sure here. Statistically, I think OM are a bit of value. But it’s so very difficult to rank PSG properly in this league due to their sheer strength. They are the best team obviously but exactly what high level will range depending who’s opinion you listen to. I think we’ll see an away win, but my instinct is that it won't be a complete cakewalk. OM can be competitive here if they have a proper gameplan. They tend to collapse vs the likes of Monaco and PSG though, so they simply can’t be backed in any form reliably.

France Ligue 1 – Troyes v Lyon Preview (22/10/17)

Match Preview

This should be an interesting game but I’m uncertain about it because of Nice’s inconsistent form this season. There is no doubt in my mind that European matches have really influenced this team and they've struggled to juggle it with domestic matters. They miss two key players for this match, Mario Balotelli and Jean Michael Seri. The impact this will have can't be underestimated. Strasbourg are still missing some players too, but keep the exact same group that drew 3-3 with Marseille last week. I was tempted by the overs, but at 1.80 the value simply isn't there. This should be a good one to view, but betting wise it’s probably best to leave alone.

I don’t rate Troyes much, but in this instance I think they are underrated a little bit. Maybe it’s a case of Lyon being overrated. I’m surprised they are around the 1.90 mark -1 Asian Handicap. OL play on the road after a bruising midweek Europa League match against Everton. They have a few key players who aren’t quite 100% at the moment and I could see them putting on a sluggish under par sort of display today. For Troyes, this will be like a cup final and to their credit they are maximising their points obtained this season, a lot of things have been going their way. I think Lyon might just find a way to win, but at these prices I wouldn't want to be backing them.

France Ligue 1 – Rennes v Lille Preview (21/10/17)

Match Preview

Both team are struggling and have just 2 wins between them all season. Confidence is low in both camps and with Rennes especially missing a bunch of attacking players, I could see this being a low scorer. Under 2.25 tempted me, but then I remembered that Marcelo Bielsa is involved, and when that's the case anything can literally happen! Probably the hardest match of the night to predict and neither team have shown anything of late that they deserve to be backed.

France Ligue 1 – Nantes v Guingamp Preview (21/10/17)

Match Preview

This could be a tight match between two fairly good sides. Nantes especially have become an extremely solid and effective unit under Claudio Ranieri. Ultimately, I don't think much will separate either team come the final whistle, but I believe Nantes are worth backing on a -0.25 handicap. The visitors will miss the influential Yannis Salibur and could struggle to break down a resolute Nantes defence. We may see yet another Canaries 1-0 victory here.
