MLS – Sporting Kansas City v Vancouver Whitecaps Preview (20/4/18)

Match Preview

I was let down by SKC last week as they struggled to beat Seattle. The noticeable thing was how few chancers they actually created and the 2-2 draw masked what was actually a tight match. Ever since Felipe Gutierrez got injured, SKC haven’t looked as potent in attack. He is again doubtful tonight, with rumours suggesting he won’t play. It just concerns me if SKC struggle in front of goal. I knew sooner or later the lack of a quality #9 striker would cost them. Johnny Russell is performing superbly on the right hand side of attack but a lot seems to be on his shoulders at the moment. SKC have been playing good football but could have issues facing a Vancouver team who will probably park the bus.

I don’t particularly rate Carl Robinson’s visitors but they have a knack of getting away results. If you take away the Atlanta match (1-4) in which they were reduced to ten men very early on, the Caps have been competitive on the road. The key to this is playing good counter attacking football and soaking up pressure. They also tend to get lucky in a lot of games so I am always wary of taking on this team. SKC should win, they are the better side but I do wonder if this is a poor match up for them tonight. Vancouver have won the last four H2H meetings so could have a mental edge. I don’t think there’s anything here from a betting point of view that interests me, so I’ll leave it alone.
