France Ligue 2 – Clermont v Metz Preview (11/8/18)

Match Preview

As hard as I try, I just can’t get away from backing Metz here. Les Grenats looked easily the best Ligue 2 side in the opening couple of rounds. Ok, the 5-1 win against Orleans might be facing the worst team in the league right now, but to score 5 goals at this stage of the season is nevertheless impressive. More encouraging still was how they best Brest 1-0 away from home in the opening round. With Frederic Antonetti in charge we know this side will be very very hard to break down and capable of grinding out tough away wins if needed. Clermont haven’t done much to impress me. They even lost 2-4 a Niort last week which doesn't bode particularly well. They are without two key midfielders at the moment and playmaker Remy Dugimont is now also injured. I struggle to see how they’ll create many chances against this strong Metz defence. Away teams have gone well in Ligue 2 this year so far and I think the same will happen again here. You could take Metz DNB for a better price but I’ll opt for +0.25 in case of a draw. I did not expect the bookies to give Clermont favouritism here. It is wrong in my opinion and this should be a pure pick em' DNB line around evens a piece, so the value is definitely with the visitors

Prediction: 0-2

Recommended bet 1 unit: Metz +0.25 @1.80
