France Ligue 2 – Metz v Ajaccio Preview (20/8/18)

Match Preview

Metz need to win here in order to join Lens at the top of the table. From what I’ve seen so far they are the best team in Ligue 2 and are rightful favourites to win tonight. They already have victories over Clermont and Brest away from home, mixed in with their one home outing which was a 5-1 tonking of Orleans. Tonight it will be tougher to break down an Ajaccio team that usually play very negatively on the road. The aim for the Corsican outfit will be to play for a 0-0 draw and grind something out. Ajaccio finished 3rd last year but don't seem properly match sharp yet and have already lost a couple of matches. Both teams have a squad in perfect condition so nobody has an edge in this department but I just think overall the home side will have too much quality. Ajaccio aren’t that bad or anything it’s just this year they seem more like a midtable sort of side to me and they don’t have enough weapons to cause Metz problems tonight. Taking a -0.75 handicap on Les Grenats is my pick for the game. I’m expecting them to bag 3 points out of this one.

Prediction: 2-0

Recommended bet 1 unit: Metz -0.75 @1.98

France Ligue 2 – Lens v Troyes Preview (18/8/18)

Match Preview

Lens have a 100% record to defend and will go top of the table with another victory here. It’s been a great start for new coach Philippe Montanier and Le Racing have yet to concede a goal in either the league or cup. I do have to wonder exactly what Lens have beaten so far though. They’ve seen off the likes of Orleans, Red Star & Nancy, all of whom happen to be possibly the worst 3 sides in Ligue 2 right now. I’m not convinced Troyes are that great at the moment either, but should provide a tougher test. Sooner or later Lens will run into a more difficult game, maybe it’ll be here, who knows. I think this will end up as a home win but the odds look about right. The price on overs actually looks generous but these earlier Saturday games have a knack of being tighter and low scoring so I am happy to avoid betting on this one.

Prediction: 1-0

France Ligue 2 – Chateauroux v Red Star Preview (17/8/18)

Match Preview

Red Star have lost all four competitive fixtures so far this season, three of them by an exact 0-1 scoreline. They obviously aren’t a great team, but they haven’t been *that* bad and at times can be competitive. Clearly a lack of goals has been an achilles heel and is the major problem. Chateauroux haven't looked that great either this season but have at least managed to grind out a couple of draws. IF you fancied Chateauroux to win tonight then they are actually a decent price. I think they should be odds-on to win, yet you can get them on a -0.25 handicap around the 1.95 mark. But until I see them play better and more convincingly I won’t be touching this team. I could easily see this match ending in a low scoring draw, although Red Star will probably find a way to lose, maybe 0-1 again….

Prediction: 1-0

France Ligue 2 – Lorient v Valenciennes Preview (17/8/18)

Match Preview

Nothing interests me in this match for a couple of reasons. Firstly, the odds seem very fair right across the board in terms of 1X2, asians and over/under. There is little or no value to be had anywhere. Secondly, I find both of these teams really hard to predict. I will admit that both have surprised me by starting the season quite well. Lorient especially have done well to win three straight away matches in league and cup respectively These two teams actually met on Tuesday night in the cup and Lorient won on that occasion 1-0 away from home. I think they might win again tonight and this might also be an overiesh sort of game, but I can’t say so with any real confidence.

Prediction: 2-1

France Ligue 2 – Paris FC v Beziers Preview (17/8/18)

Match Preview

I’m not expecting a classic here and a low scoring encounter is highly likely. If you wanted to back Paris FC then they aren't bad value really, around the 2.10 to win outright. I personally think they deserve to be an odds-on favourite here. But we know they can sometimes struggle to score goals and this Beziers team has kept 2/2 clean sheets away from home this season. They seem to be enjoying being on the road and their counter attacking style is definitely causing dangerous moments to the opposition. I could see Paris FC winning a scrappy type of 1-0 game but I don’t feel confident enough to actually back them.

Prediction: 1-0

France Ligue 2 – Niort v Orleans Preview (17/8/18)

Match Preview

There are two picks I like for this match - Niort and over 2.5. The home team have started the season with 2 out of 3 victories and the one loss I won’t hold it against them because Grenoble are a really solid team at the moment. New coach Patrice Lair seems to have breathed some new life into the team and when they faced poor opposition defending in the form of Red Star and Clermont, Les Chamois managed to feast. Niort will probably play quite openly in this game and I suspect Orleans will try something different. The visitors seem like a real mess at the moment, especially at the back where they have no organisation whatsoever. I think there’s a good chance this will end up as a home win so I’m happy to take Niort -0.25 which offers some draw cover. This also feels like the sort of match both teams will score in, so taking over 2.5 makes sense as well. Both bets are priced around the 1.85 mark which are decent odds to prevail.

Prediction: 3-1

Recommended bet 1 unit: Niort -0.25 @1.84

Recommended bet 1 unit: Over 2.5 goals @1.84

France Ligue 2 – Le Havre v Clermont Preview (17/8/18)

Match Preview

Le Havre are one of the top teams in Ligue 2 and could easily have won all 3 games so far with a bit more luck. Their defence can be relied upon to keep things very tight and so far they've only conceded 1 goal in 4 competitive games this season. Perhaps a slight problem is actually scoring goals, but now that key playmaker Zinedine Ferhat is back in the squad perhaps things will change. I’m still not sure he will be focused on the job and wants to leave the club, but I’m sure he’ll also be eager to impress any potential buyers. Le Havre really should be having too much for Clermont here. The visitors were actually unlucky to lose against Metz 2-3 last week but have got rid of most of their better players this summer, the latest departure being Remy Dugimont to Auxerre. Le Havre should overall have too much strength and backing them on a very generous looking -0.25 handicap makes some sense in my opinion.

Prediction: 2-0

Recommended bet 1 unit: Le Havre -0.5 @2.06

France Ligue 2 – Auxerre v Nancy Preview (17/8/18)

Match Preview

Auxerre badly let me down in the first two matches this season but I am willing to give them another go here. Things have changed dramatically since the opening day and the coach has ringed the changes, being quite ruthless in approach. He’s dropped goalkeeper Zacharie Boucher who hadn’t been playing well and he’s also completely changed the backline. Auxerre are missing striker Mohamed Yattara due to an injury sustained in last week’s warmup. But they played better without him on the field this year so it might be a blessing in disguise. Yanis Merdi was very good at Orleans and bagged a couple of goals. Auxerre also won in the cup on Tuesday night which should improve their morale. Nancy also claimed a win in that competition but they only beat Red Star 1-0 which is nothing special. In the league they've lost all 3/3 contests and yet to even score a goal. Auxerre really should have too much here and their price looks generous enough. AJA probably should be close to a -1 or -0.75 Asian line but can be backed at 1.91 just to win outright. I’m willing to chance my arm with them again despite previous failures.

Prediction: 2-0

Recommended bet 1 unit: Auxerre -0.5 @1.91

France Ligue 2 – GFC Ajaccio v Grenoble Preview (17/8/18)

Match Preview

For me personally, the odds are the wrong way around here. What have Grenoble done to deserve favouritism? GFCA should be a -0.25 fav themselves, yet are somehow an underdog at home! I don’t really understand this, but despite the value on the hosts I’m not going to back them. We had a very similar situation last week where they were a big price vs Lorent and duly lost 1-3. I am not convinced GFCA will win tonight because Grenoble seem a really solid team at the moment and hard to beat. They are unbeaten in the league and only conceded one goal. Even in the cup midweek they gave a very good account of themselves at Metz. I could see a low scoring draw occurring in this match. The statistical value is on GFCA and under 2 goals but I will happily leave this match alone.

Prediction: 0-0
