France Ligue 2 – Auxerre v Guingamp Preview (19/8/19)

Match Preview

Both teams haven’t started the season as they would’ve hoped. Auxerre have already lost 2 out of 3 games and Guingamp only have 4 points on the board. Both of these sides also lost in the cup last midweek with Auxerre getting KOd by National Division outfit Beziers which is a slight embarrassment. Guingamp got hammered 4-1 by Orleans. I don’t take the results of the first round of the Coupe de la Ligue very seriously but those outcomes were of slight concern in my opinion. In their one home match this season Auxerre beat Le Mans 2-0 and it was their best performance of the season. Everyone knows at some stage Jean Marc Furlan will get a grip on this squad. He is such a good coach at Ligue 2 level and will have Auxerre firing, eventually. Things aren’t quite right at the moment and he’s going to have to do without striker Mohammad Yatarra here, although it might be a blessing in disguise due to poor form.

Guingamp are missing centre back Christophe Kerbrat to suspension and right back Jeremy Mellot to injury. This means the the slow old Jeremy Sorbon will probably start. The only match in which Guingamp kept a clean sheet this season was when he was benched. The visitors look vulnerable defensively but have enough firepower to cause Auxerre problems. The likes of Rodelin, Roux, Ngbakoto & Blas should get chances tonight. The bet I like here is over 2 goals. It’s no secret that Jean Marc Furlan likes to attack and he will probably have Auxerre on the front foot here as best he can. The results of Auxerre league games have been 2-0 2-0 and 1-0 but the previous contest vs Sochaux was facing a very negative sort of side. Guingamp aren’t the sort of team who will come here to sit back so I think this will be a fairly open game of football giving every chance that over 2 lands. I would lean towards Auxerre winning overall but they aren’t trustworthy yet.

Prediction: 2-1

Recommended bet: Over 2 goals @1.87
