France Ligue 2 – Le Mans v Lorient Preview (23/8/19)

Match Preview

Le Mans have lost every match in the league so far, three of their four games by an exact 1-2 scoreline. However, I think they have been better than that and unfortunate not to have a few points on the board. Le Mans actually play some decent football and create quite a few chances. They don’t finish very well though and make crucial mistakes at the wrong time. They faced NINE man Nancy for over 30 mins last week but still somehow contrived to lose the game! This is a team that appears to have forgotten how to win matches and that also finishes fixtures really badly. They have conceded late goals in all of their games which suggests either a lack of fitness, naivety or just poor tactics in the latter part of affairs. Lorient travel here joint top of the table and look like a much better unit under Christophe Pellisier. They can certainly challenge for automatic promotion this year. The visitors are without striker Umut Bozok who is injured for a month whilst playmaker Alexis Claude Maurice has probably played his last game for the club. The likes of Jimmy Cabot and Yoanne Wissa have been in good form though and big striker Pierre Yves Hamel should return here. These two teams met recently in the Coupe de la Ligue and Le Mans won 21. I’m expecting a similar open type match with goals again so over 2.25 is my selection. Le Mans will probably be quite competitive but find a way to lose, so Lorient may well pick up another maximum point haul overall.

Prediction: 1-2

Recommended bet: Over 2.25 goals @1.86
