Lens started the season well with two straight wins but have since slipped down the standings, failing to take victory in any of their last four. I am still of the belief that Lens have the best equipped squad on paper to achieve promotion out of Ligue 2. They have quality and depth all over the field but I did mention it might take some time for them to find top gear. The end result of the summer transfer window was 14 new players, plus 2 or 3 coming back from loan spells. This was never going to be easy to settle everyone down so quickly. The main problem for Lens has been in defence where clean sheets have been in very short supply. Exactly what lineup the coach decides to go with in the next few weeks I’m not entirely sure but something needs to become more consistent.
Thankfully for Lens their backline is unlikely to be tested much tonight. Chateauroux have yet to score a single goal in the league this season and I struggle to see how they create much tonight. Apart from Romain Grange they have very little to write home about in the final third of the field. Nicolas Uisai shocked everyone by picking up a 1-0 victory at this stadium last season and it was the springboard on which they propelled up the table. They also held Lens to a 0-0 draw back in April. It’s clear what the gameplan will be, keep things tight and try and grind out something like a 0-0 draw. Lens have plenty of playmakers who should be able to unlock their defence though. Les Sang et Or don’t lack for creativity and should eventually find a way through. One goal is probably all it’s going to take for victory but I see something like a 2-0 or 3-0 result being the most probable. Lens on a -1 Asian Handicap for me looks like a good safe bet.
