France Ligue 2 – Valenciennes v Paris FC Preview (13/12/19)

Match Preview

Valenciennes have tightened up their act in recent weeks, picking up 7 points from their last 3 games. Paris FC meanwhile, lost back to back fixtures. This followed on from a good run so it’s difficult to predict exactly what you’re going to get from them. I have a suspicion that VA might just sneak this affair something like 1-0 and backing them -0.25 wouldn’t be the worst idea in the world. It is a very drawable fixture though and a tight Paris FC success can’t be ruled out either. There was a temptation to back that aforementioned -0.25 handicap but ultimately this is another match I’ll swerve.

Prediction: 1-0

France Ligue 2 – Sochaux v Grenoble Preview (13/12/19)

Match Preview

Sochaux have drifted recently and I think the main reason has been injuries and suspensions, especially at the back. The likes of Lacroix, Diedhiou and Paye are all ruled out again tonight and it will affect their strength at the back. Sochaux should still be well organised under coach Omar Daf but not as hard to break down as they could be. Grenoble will be hard to beat tonight and if the Sochaux defence was at full strength I would say this is a 0-0 candidate. As it happens, I think we are more likely to see an away win, something like 0-1 or 0-2. Grenoble draw far too many games so another stalemate is certainly possible though. From a betting point of view maybe there’s some juice on the visitors but I’m reluctant to take on Sochaux at home this season.

France Ligue 2 – Rodez v Caen Preview (13/12/19)

Match Preview

Rodez have now lost their last 5 consecutive matches and overall 8 of their last 10. RAF had a good start to life in Ligue 2 following promotion but things have definitely slipped decently. You kind of worry that their promotion bubble has burst and they are vulnerable. In contrast, Caen travel here unbeaten in 8 games and have yet to lose since Pascal Dupraz took over at the helm. He’d have preferred as few more victories but Caen are now safely in midtable sand can look upwards rather than down. He’s transformed the approach of the team and I’ve been impressed with some of their recent performances and I suspect they might win tonight. Nothing really interests me from a betting point of view though so I’ll leave it alone.

Prediction: 1-2

France Ligue 2 – Nancy v Chateauroux Preview (13/12/19)

Match Preview

Nancy lost for just the second time this season in their previous game, going down 0-1 at Caen. I rate the Lorraine side but i do worry that they will still be rocked by the long term injury to star attacker Wagner. It has been a couple of weeks now since he broke his leg so they have had more time to work on tactics etc without him. But I worry Nancy might lack firepower as a result. Fellow striker Makhtar Gueye is still injured on the sidelines too. It’s fairly obvious hoe Chateauroux will lineup against them here, looking to get men behind the ball and frustrate. I suspect a low scoring tussle which could very easily end a draw. The odds look about right. Nancy are worthy favourites but have dropped a lot of points to draws this season.

France Ligue 2 – Lorient v Auxerre Preview (13/12/19)

Match Preview

What has happened to Auxerre? They are winless in seven league games and also got knocked out of the Coupe de France against 8th division opposition last week. Things aren’t very rosy for Jean Marc Furlan, a Ligue 2 specialist manager who has his toughest job yet. I am starting to think that even he can’t cure a club that is just stuck in Ligue 2 cement right now.  I am expecting Lorient to win tonight but the price isn’t very appealling. I have said this for the last few rounds and each time I have regretted taking FCL. But should they seriously be a -1 Asian favourite tonight? I personally think a -0.75 line would be fairer so the value isn’t there. Maybe Auxerre might prefer being an underdog vs a team that has to attack them as well. I’ll leave this match alone but do worry for Auxerre right now I have to admit.

Prediction: 2-1

France Ligue 2 – Le Mans v Orleans Preview (13/12/19)

Match Preview

I think Le Mans are overpriced here. They are 1.88 DNB to beat Orleans at home, a side who have won just once all year in 17 games! For that reason they are rooted to the bottom of the table and I’m surprised Didier Olle Nicolle is still in charge. Maybe he has two games left to save his job because this sort of form can’t continue. I don’t think Orleans are as bad away from home but it feels like they are in a real malaise right now and desperately struggling. Le Mans themselves have a tendency to cock up games and have found ways to lose this year despite playing well. That concerns me, but I can’t ignore this price. A fairer line would be between -0.25 and -0.5 so with full draw cover this looks a good bet.

Prediction: 2-1

Recommended bet: Le Mans DNB @1.88

France Ligue 2 – Clermont v Le Havre Preview (13/12/19)

Match Preview

I don’t quite know what to make of Clermont at the moment. I think I actually prefer them away from home where they can regularly counter attack. Here in front of their own fans, it's only been two victories all season, vs Chateauroux and Niort which is nothing to write home about. Le Havre travel here in good form and suddenly re-found their mojo after three straight victories. Their attack force especially seems to be in better touch with main man Tino Kadwere back amongst the goals. I have a gut feeling and a fancy for over 2 or over 2.25 goals for this game but the odds aren’t great. Clermont have had quite a few under games which concerns me, so I’ll no bet.

Prediction: 1-1

France Ligue 2 – Chambly v Niort Preview (13/12/19)

Match Preview

Both sides have been in very poor form. Chambly have lost 9 of their last 11 games and Niort lost 6 of their last 8. Scoring goals isn’t exactly a strength for either of them as well. Chambly’s 4-0 victory at Troyes a few weeks ago looks like a pure freak. For the most part hitting the back of the net is a major problem. I think this match will either be a boring 0-0 or one of those wild games in which both teams fancy their chances. I cannot predict a result and nothing would surprise me. With a gun to my head I’d back under 2 goals due to the lack of quality on show but this is a clear no bet.

Prediction: 1-1

France Ligue 2 – Troyes v Rodez Preview (3/12/19)

Match Preview

I’ve about given up trying to predict Troyes matches. I can very rarely get them right this season. They went from losing 0-4 at home to Chambly to beating Sochaux 1-0 on the road. I think ESTAC have enough to see off a Rodez side that have now lost four consecutive games. However, that Chambly fixture is a difficult one to forget and if Troyes leave themselves exposed again defensively it could lead to some problems. The odds look about right and I have no intention of getting involved in Troyes matches until I can predict them better.

Prediction: 2-1

France Ligue 2 – Paris FC v Guingamp Preview (3/12/19)

Match Preview

Paris FC lost 0-2 at Nancy on Friday but prior to that they hadn’t been on a bad run. I think a lot depends on which version of Guingamp turns up here. They have been rather inconsistent of late and in their most recent away match produced a really poor performance losing at Le Havre 4-0. Of course, Paris FC don’t have the same sort of offensive strength that HAC have, but are certainly capable of putting in a committed sort of display that can cause Guingamp problems. I find this a really difficult match to predict and no result would surprise me. The odds look about fair and a draw is perhaps the most likely outcome.
