Caen remain unbeaten under the management of Pascal Dupraz. They’ve drawn 5 of their 7 matches since he took over but probably should’ve had a couple more victories at least. Caen have massively improved under Dupraz and he’s changed so much about this team, not just the formation. Dupraz sacrifices some defensive strength in order to score more goals. Caen have kept just once clean sheet with the ex Evian man at the helm, but fans won’t mind that because they’ve become much more of an offensive threat. Tonight they face a Nancy side who have only lost once all season. The Lorraine outfit have drawn a massive 11/16 fixtures but head into this affair off the back of a win on Friday night vs Paris FC. The big black mark on that success was the major injury to key attacker Wagner. He dislocated his ankle and broke his leg and will be out for 4-5 months, which is effectively most of his season over.
I can’t stress how much of a massive blow this is for Nancy. He has been absolutely brilliant for them since he arrived in January and genuinely one of the best players in this league. Just to make matters worse tonight fellow striker Makhtar Gueye is out with a toe injury. I just worry how the Wagner broken leg will affect this squad. I like the idea of backing Caen DNB tonight and they look a big price. I would personally make them favourites between a -0.25 an -0.5 asian line. A draw of course has a significant chance of occurring here but on this handicap I don’t mind that. Caen look overpriced anyway and I’m sure Nancy will offer much less of a threat without Wagner. They might need some time to change their whole system without such a key man.
