Norway Eliteserien – Bodø/Glimt v Haugesund Preview (21/6/19)

Match Preview

I have to say Bodø/Glimt looked excellent on Wednesday as they came from behind to beat Viking 4-2 away. It didn’t look like much had changed since last season. They are a very well coached side and the physical condition of the players seemed superb. This team have a great engine and look like they could run all night! It was a massive boost to have Jens Petter Hauge on the field. The key young winger is set to move to Belgium soon but it seems that until that happens he’s going to be the ultimate professional and give his absolute all. Hauge just wants to perform on the field and let his footballing do the talking. A number of other players also stood out going forward though including new signing Sondre Fet. He looks like he’s going to fit in perfectly here at Bodø/Glimt and regularly threatened getting into the penalty box. You would think that new goalkeeper Joshua Smits will be available for this match but Nikita Khaikin wasn’t too bad in the Viking match so might retain his place in the XI.

Haugesund travel here having lost 1-2 at home to Brann. They succumbed to a 96th minute goal so will be stinging after such a result. That match vs Brann was a pretty bruising and physical contest and it might have taken quite a bit out of the players. Probably of bigger concern is that they were generally outplayed by Brann and were lucky that their opponents didn’t really take their chances. I don’t think they’ll be so fortunate vs Bodø/Glimt. From a fitness and physical point of view Haugesund seemed a bit ‘off’ and the longer this match goes the more you worry for them. Key left back Alexander Stolas will return soon but he still appears short of match fitness and will surely be on the bench at absolute best. Both H2H meetings last season ended draws but based on what I saw midweek Bodø/Glimt will take victory here. Maybe Haugesund might score because Glimt always give you a chance somewhere but backing the home side seems like the best option. Over 2.75 goals could also be considered but Haugesund looked so toothless the other day that I couldn’t trust them to find the net.

Prediction: 3-1
