We end the round with another derby match, this time on the west coast of Norway. Brann beat Haugesund on Wednesday night in the 96th minute so are sure to take plenty of momentum into this clash. For the most part Brann looked quite good and created decent chances. They didn’t always take them but I was encouraged by what I saw. I mentioned in my season preview that on paper they even have the quality to launch a title challenge but lack of ambition from the manager and an inability to break down some resolute sides will probably be their undoing. For this match some defenders such as Forren, Teniste and Kolskogen are rated doubtful so perhaps there could be some vulnerabilities at the back.
Viking lost 2-4 at home to an impressive Bodø/Glimt outfit. There were positives and negatives from that display but I was concerned in the second half how they looked a bit leggy and not as physically fresh as they could be. Perhaps they’ll come on for the run and Viking do have a big squad from which to rotate players. I have a feeling that Brann will win this match and based on what I saw in the first round they appear to be in better shape. However, they have some mental baggage to overcome such as losing twice to Viking last season, including the horror 1-5 home defeat towards the back end of last season. I would lean towards backing Brann -0.25 and over 2.5 goals but this being such a crunch derby between two local rivals I think it’s best to leave it alone.
