Norway Eliteserien – Molde v Stabaek Preview (28/6/20)

Match Preview

Molde showed why they are champions in all three games so far. They had to overcome a plucky Aalesund side in the first round and then dug out a 1-0 victory against key rivals RBK. It looked like their 100% record was going to be ended by Start on Wednesday night but a last gasp Gregersen winner gave them a 3-2 victory. It was the sort of moment why they will probably win the gold medal again this year. However, from a footballing point of view there were some concerns about midweek for MFK. They were strangely lacklustre at times and also looked vulnerable. I have said many times that you CAN actually get at their defence if you are good enough and have the right sort of players. For this match key striker Leke James will probably return from injury but the squad has so much depth that they have so many options in the final third. It’s quite sick how loaded they are really.

Stabaek travel here on the back of a comfortable 2-0 victory vs Sandefjord in midweek. They remain unbeaten and might be able to cause Molde some problems. Stabaek have the potential to have a strong defence but key centre back Yaw Amankwah is rated doubtful here and he’d be a big loss. I don’t think Stabaek will be able to resist the Molde forwards anyway, but what they do have is some fast young players who could wreak havoc on the counter attack. The bet that stands out to me is over 3 goals. This fixture has a history of being high scoring anyway but the sheer amount of attacking ability on the field should probably yield a decent over type of match. Something like a 3-1 or 3-2 Molde win wouldn't surprise me. Stabaek can be competitive and run them close but MFK always have that firepower to bulldoze anyone.

Prediction: 3-1

Recommended bet: Over 3 goals @1.99
