Norway Eliteserien – Rosenborg v Bodø/Glimt Preview (25/6/20)

Match Preview

Where to watch on TV - Eurosport UK 19:30 BST

Rosenborg are in trouble. They haven’t started the season very well and the pressure is piling upon everyone at the club, especially head coach Eirik Horneland. The ex Haugesund boss was lucky to keep his job last season as RBK laboured to a 3rd placed finish. Things were meant to be different in 2020 but so far they haven’t even scored a goal. It's the manner of the performances which seem worrying. Rosenborg have a plethora of talent in their squad but Horneland can’t seem to get the best out of them, especially the offensive players who seem restricted under his stewardship. There has been talk about experienced coach Åge Hareide coming in as a replacement and Horneland perhaps stepping down to the #2 role.

Either way, the manager and the players are under some big pressure and it’s time they now delivered on the field. The fixture list hasn’t been kind to them though. Molde just beat them 1-0 and already have a 100% record at the top of the table. Next up is Bodø/Glimt who arguably look the most red hot side in the league right now. Glimt have carried on where they left off last campaign by beating Viking 4-2 and then smashing Haugesund 6-1. Their fitness, energy and tactical gameplans have been frighteningly good so far and you just know there won’t be any fear for them travelling to Trondheim. The visitors are an incredibly well drilled outfit.

RBK haven’t scored a goal yet this season but surely that changes here. They simply have to have ‘more of a go’ and I would expect more of an emphasis put on offensive play tonight. Bodø/Glimt are quite attack minded so usually leave some gaps for someone to exploit. For me, over 2.75 goals is the obvious pick in what is likely to be a frantic affair. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if Glimt actually won outright. There are a couple of extra bets I’m going to take as well. Jens Petter Hauge is as big as 4.50 to score anytime with Betway. This is too big for a player who has scored 6 goals in his last 6 Eliteserien games, including a brace in this very fixture at the back end of 2019. Hauge has looked at his blistering best so far this season and gets to take on the right hand side of RBK’s defence which is a weakness. He will almost certainly be on penalties too and has a 100% 6/6 conversion rate from the spot in his career. On the RBK side Pål André Helland looks too big at 3.60 to score anytime as well. He will probably only play for 65 mins but will be all over set pieces and is the sort of player who likes to raise it for the big occasion.

Prediction: 2-2
