Both teams played surprisingly well in round one. Sandefjord managed to beat Odd 2-1 away from home with Brazillian Ze Eduardo scoring with his first touch in Norwegian football after coming off the bench! But the most impressive thing about Sandefjord was how well organised and competitive they looked against Odd. For the most part they restricted Odd to very few major chances and it looks like they could be difficult to penetrate this season. Sandefjord are really well coached by Spaniard Marti Cifuentes and he will get the absolute maximum out of this team. However, it must be stressed that on paper this squad doesn’t have the greatest ability of depth and some weeks they will simply be outclassed.
Start travel here on the back of a very competitive 2-2 draw vs Strømsgodset on Thursday. I was quite impressed with how good they looked and some standout performances were left winger Kevin Kabran and playmaker Eman Markovic who is definitely one to watch. These two teams know each other extremely well having been in the OBOS Ligaen together last season. Both meetings ended draws in 2019, including a 0-0 back in August. I could see something similar between two sides who are well set up and who don't want to lose. There’s a chance that both might fancy their chances and go gung-ho for the victory but at this early stage of the season it’s unlikely. Under 2.5 goals definitely catches my eye because I just sense that chances will be at a premium. Sandefjord’s match with Odd was heading towards a clear under 0-0 on Wednesday before three freak late goals, whilst Start’s match only really opened up as soon as they fell behind. Under 2.5 line around even money seems like a decent bet to me.
