Vålerenga started off the season with a solid 1-0 away win at Sarpsborg but have since come back down to earth by drawing 2-2 with Stabaek and then getting beaten 4-1 by Odd. A few gremlins have reared their ugly heads in the last couple of matches. It’s clear VIF really missed key centre back Jonathan Tollas Nation who basically has to be man managed in a Ledley King sort of way. He certainly hasn’t got the fitness to play two matches in the space of a week but he should return here. Whether or not new midfield signing Fredrik Oldrup Jense is fit to return is questionable. You just feel without him the midfield lacks bite and ball winners. Young talented goalkeeper Kristoffer Klaesson needs to stop making mistakes, especially on misjudging crosses.
Viking have started slow out of the blocks and only have one point after 3 games. Things were expected to be much better for them this year but something hasn’t quite clicked for them yet. It must be said they have faced three teams who are either pretty good or in excellent form though so results might not be as bad as suggested on paper. The manager has a big squad here and he needs to fully work out what is the best XI for this game. I think this is a tough game to predict and could go either way. I wouldn’t be surprised to see it being a lower scoring sort of contest with maybe a draw the most likely outcome.
