Norway Eliteserien – Aalesund v Mjøndalen Preview (1/7/20)

Match Preview

Aalesund nearly won for the first time at the weekend but succumbed to a late Godset penalty, eventually having to accept a 1-1 draw. They were a lot better disciplined defensively in that match after a catastrophic start to the season in which they shipped a lot of goals. Whether or not they can use it as a springboard I’m not sure. Mjøndalen travel here on the back of a 1-2 loss vs KBK. They weren’t too bad in that game but missed chances at crucial times probably cost them. The visitors haven’t been rotating the side too much and maybe the physical challenge of so many games is starting to catch up with them.

I sense that both teams might not have much left in the tank. This is an interesting match in that 3-5-2 type formations, or something similar is often employed. It could be a tactical battle decided by set pieces. MIF tend to be quite solid and the sort of side who play for corners and set pieces. Aalesund need to win soon and the onus is on them to perhaps set the pace. The problem AFK have is continued injuries in midfield. Mutch and Carlsen remain out and the fixture vs Godset was quite bruising. Ozochukwu is suspended leaving them really light in the middle. This is a hard match to predict and my best guess is a draw.

Prediction: 1-1
