Haugesund had a bit of a brutal start to the season but seem to have steadied the ship thanks to a 2-2 draw vs KBK and a tight 1-0 victory at Sandefjord. I knew this team would sort itself out because on paper they have too much general quality to suffer for much longer. In all truth the main problem was a 1-6 drubbing at Glimt, but that side are playing some fantastic stuff at the moment and we shouldn’t judge FKH too badly on that match. Experienced central midfielder Christien Grindheim is still injured and they await the return of key striker Ibrahima Wadji on July 17th after a doping ban. The rest of the squad seems fine though. Maybe Alexander Stølås is due a first start of the season soon at left back.
Start came back down to earth on Saturday as they got battered 0-5 by Odd at home. I think it was just a culmination of playing too many matches and the Eliteserien standard catching up with them. The newly promoted side had been fairly competitive in the first 3 matches, including a heartbreaking 2-3 home loss to defending champions Molde. It was a concern how poor they were vs Odd though and I worry about the physical fitness of this squad. Key midfielder Afeez Aremu is injured for this match and will be a big loss. For me, Haugesund have the extra quality and experience to win tonight. They showed vs Sandefjord they know how to get the job done vs a promoted side and at a price of 1.87 I’m happy to back them on the nose to get victory. Haugesund are underrated and have a strong midtable sort of squid. They are heading in the right direction with momentum whilst Start could be on the decline.
