Haugesund appeared to be back on track after a poor start but have now suffered successive defeats to both Molde and Vålerenga. Let’s be honest, the only two teams they’ve managed to beat are Sandefjord and Start who are both poor at this level. The main issue Haugesund have is scoring goals and they are the joint lowest scorers in the division. If we take out the 1-6 abomination vs Glimt out of the equation the defensive side of things have been much better though. You can generally rely on FKH to keep things tight and the strength of this squad is at the back. Key striker Ibrahima Wadji is serving the last game of his year long suspension and will be back next weekend.
This is a local west coast derby and Viking don’t come into the match in great form. They have won just 1 match all year which was vs Sandefjord and so far they’ve failed to replicate what was a brilliant 2019 campaign. In terms of performances I think there have been signs of life at least. You could argue they should’ve beaten both Start and Odd, yet somehow only picked up 1 point from those fixtures. They got battered 5-0 by Molde in midweek but that was simply a case of being outclassed. Viking even showed a few decent signs in attack but just couldn’t convert their chances.
I don’t see this match being much of a classic and both sides probably just don’t want to lose. Under 2.5 goals is a bet I considered but strange things can happen in derby games and I sense that in an ideal world both would want to refind some sort of attacking identity. I’m not sure I trust the Viking defence to keep things tight either based on recent performances. If anyone is to win then I would say Haugesund but this looks like a good match to swerve.
