Norway Eliteserien – Molde v Mjøndalen Preview (5/7/20)

Match Preview

Molde dropped their first points of the season in midweek when they succumbed to a last minute penalty at Kristiansund (2-2). With Bodø/Glimt in seemingly top form right now MFK can ill afford to draw too many matches this season. You would think they have too much class for Mjøndalen in this match and it’s an ideal chance to get back on track. Molde have a ton of attacking options in the squad and always have a glutton of goals in them. Glimt have scored more this season but Molde can pretty much bulldoze anyone they like. The main issue for MFK is at the back where they do have some defensive issues. It feels like everyone in defence has been carrying some sort of knock and a lot of guys have been playing out of position.

This makes me think that Mjøndalen could maybe score in this match, but I wouldn’t be banking on it. The visitors are likely to travel here in a very defensive sort of formation and just try to stifle Molde out. Last season they only lost this fixture 1-0 and also managed to hold someone like Glimt to a 0-0 draw away. I fully expect them to field a five man defence and be hard to break down. But Molde have way to much quality and class to eventually break them down. The hosts not winning this match is quite unimaginable so I’m fairly sure the best bet is taking a -1.25 Asian Handicap. Maybe there is a risk of MFK winning by just one goal but they should have enough to cover this handicap. I’m thinking something like 2-0 or 3-0 is likely. Mjøndalen are a threat from set pieces but I don’t expect them to have many opportunities here.

Prediction: 2-0

Recommended bet: Molde -1.25 Asian Handicap @2.0
