Odd beat Viking 2-1 on Sunday thanks to a last minute winner which wasn’t really deserved. A draw or a Viking victory would’ve been a fairer reflection on the match and I am personally not convinced by Odd this season. Most of their better results were when they still had Torgeir Børven in the team and without him as the focal point in attack I worry about their firepower. That victory last week will have done them the world of good and I’m sure improved confidence, but on paper Odd now just look like a run of the mill sort of midtable Eliteserien side. From a defensive point of view I expect them to remain fairly solid and this can be a tough defence to penetrate sometimes. But it’s an ageing squad and these midweek fixtures are less than ideal. We saw how a bit of pace and flair from Bodø/Glimt ripped them apart a few weeks ago.
Brann of course were also ripped apart by Glimt but responded well by beating Sandefjord 3-1 last time out. It was a positive and encouraging performance by Lars Arne Nilsen’s men, albeit against perhaps the worst side in the league. It was good to see some attacking intent by Brann though and clearly a desire to respond to their horrible hammering up in Bodø/Glimt. I think this will be a more open game than people expect and I did look at backing over 2.5 goals. But I’m concerned that Odd will still lack goals without Børven. Brann have a bit of extra class and quality in the final third which could see them prevail come the final whistle. Something like a 0-2 or 1-2 away win is what I’m expecting, although in terms of betting I’m going to leave this one alone.
