The post Torgeir Børven era at Odd started badly in midweek as they got battered 0-4 at home to Bodø/Glimt. It was a disastrous game as Odd found themselves down to 10 men for over 75 mins which was less than ideal. You could argue they actually did well to come out of the match alive by ‘only’ losing 0-4. The hectic schedule might have caught up with what is quite a smallish and old squad. Right back Espen Ruud is suspended and there are doubts surrounding the fitness of both midfielders Fredrik Nordkvelle and Vebjørn Hoff. Odd beat VIF 4-1 and Start 5-0 but without Børven they will be far less of a threat upfront and I do worry where their goals will come from now.
Haugesund started the season badly but have managed to grind out a couple of 1-0 wins vs Sandefjord and Start. It’s not like they've beaten anything special but from their point of view it has to be encouraging to keep back to back clean sheets. They are trending in an upwards direction but on the field I’m not totally convinced yet. They should be able to lean on their decent defence here again. Too much was made of them conceding six times to Glimt in round 2. They were facing a total monster that day and it’s almost a freak result. I’m expecting a tight low scoring fixture here between two teams who can defend but not necessarily score.
I looked at Under 2.5 goals and was very close to betting but after such a hectic period of matches anything could happen regarding mistakes and tiredness so I’ll leave it alone. If anyone is to win then maybe Haugesund are more likely to nick it 1-0 or something but a 0-0 or 1-1 draw seems a likely outcome.
