Norway Eliteserien – Sandefjord v Aalesund Preview (15/7/20)

Match Preview

Here we have a battle between two promoted teams who haven’t had a good start to the season. Sandefjord managed 4 points from their opening 2 games but have since lost five straight and look a bit out of their depth in this league. I liked some of their positive intent away at Brann on Sunday night but the style of play that head coach Marti Cifuentes wants is probably asking too much of this team. Too many mistakes are being made and they play a risky game passing it out from the back. I have a feeling Sandefjord will have been targeting this game as it sandwiches away fixtures to Brann and Rosenborg. They will be ready and prepared knowing they have a chance of victory.

Aalesund remain winless and it’s been a disastrous campaign for the 2019 OBOS Ligaen winners. Many expected them to be a ‘dark horse’ type of team who could cause upsets but the defence simply hasn’t been good enough. Adopting the 3-4-3 system in the Eliteserien has proved much harder. Manager Lars Bohinen must surely find a way to make this defence more solid soon and fixtures facing the likes of Sandefjord, Stabaek and Odd gives him a better chance of that. The bet I considered here was over 2.5 goals but I just wonder if both teams will play cagey knowing the importance of the match. Aalesund are the better team in my opinion but that backline just can’t be trusted at all. An away win 1-2 or 1-3 wouldn’t surprise me but I’m happy to leave this match alone.
