Norway Eliteserien – Sandefjord v Mjøndalen Preview (26/7/20)

Match Preview

This is a battle between 14th and 11th and a couple of teams who have lost a lot of matches recently. Sandefjord suffered defeat in 6 of their last 7 games whilst Mjøndalen are now on a 4 game losing streak. In my personal opinion Sandejord have the worst playing squad in the entire league but they are well coached and can be competitive in fixtures. They very nearly managed to come back and draw at Rosenborg last week but hit the crossbar late. The away performance against Brann prior to that had a few encouraging signs and sandwiched in between was a crucial 1-0 victory vs Aalesund. Sandefjord have suffered injuries which haven’t helped them, especially in midfield but the week off will have done everyone some good and given a chance to recharge the batteries.

Mjøndalen have been really unlucky recently and deserved to take more out of most of their losses. They will especially feel aggrieved at a number of refereeing decisions that have gone against them. Actual performances haven’t been too bad but it never gets easy when a team starts losing games of football in this sort of way. I think this will be a physical game between two teams who will know that this is a good chances to get 3 points. In my experience these type of matches either end up really tight and close, or explode into life as both totally go for it. I suspect it will go the way of a lower scoring contest but I’m not sure. Maybe this could be a draw? Nothing would surprise me and it’s hard to bet on.

Prediction: 1-1
