Norway Eliteserien – Stabaek v Strømsgodset Preview (1/7/20)

Match Preview

Strømsgodset remain unbeaten but very nearly lost that record at the weekend when they drew 1-1 with Aalesund. They needed a late minute penalty to secure a point. To be honest, it was a bit of a lacklustre performance and I felt they were lucky to draw. It just didn;t look like they were capable of breaking down one of the worst defences in the league. Maybe it was fatigue and tiredness I’m not sure. The main problem that SIF have squad wise is at the back where Vilsvik and Parr are both rated doubtful. They also have longer term injuries to Prosper Mendy and Duplexe Tchamba who haven’t featured yet this season. Midfielder Jack Ipalibo is suspended but Herman Stengel should be fit enough to return to the starting XI.

I think this is a difficult match to predict. My feeling is that is could be a low key encounter between two potential tired teams so a low scoring type of affair is possible. Stabaek are priced around the even money mark which is fair enough. If I was to take anything then it would be under 2.5 goals but I would be guessing on a gut feeling. Stabaek might just be able to sneak a victory. They have the better defence so have more clean sheet potential. Maybe the home side can grab a goal at the other end and it will be enough to secure victory. There’s plenty of question marks here so I think the game is better off avoided.
