Norway Eliteserien – Start v Rosenborg Preview (16/7/20)

Match Preview

Start remain winless after 7 games and it’s been a difficult opening to the season for the newly promoted side. They have at times played some decent football and not looked out of place in the top flight but they seem to concede goals at crucial moments, especially late on in matches which has cost them badly this season. Start have been hit hard by injuries and there’s a lack of physical condition from certain players so far in 2020. That sort of situation has improved recently but you just know that this hectic schedule of a match every 3 days doesn’t suit them. If they could repeat the sort of performance that saw them come within seconds of drawing vs Molde and nearly beating Viking then they could give Rosenborg something to think about today, but I’m not convinced.

The visitors started the season slowly under the management of Eirik Horneland. Since his sacking they’ve gone unbeaten, winning 3 out of 4 matches and generally looking much better. Caretaker boss Trond Henriksen seems to be getting more out of the players anyway and RBK have won their last two consecutive matches 3-0. Ultimately, this is a very talented squad which should recover to finish 3rd this season and they are well conditioned physically which gives them an edge. #1 keeper Andre Hansen looks like he’s ruled out until potentially September but the good news for RBK is they have the best backup in the entire league with Julian Faye Lund, who would start for half the clubs in this division.

I’m expecting Rosenborg to win this match relatively comfortably. They don’t win matches in a flashy way like Glimt and Molde do, but they look pretty solid right now and I’d be surprised if Start threatened them too much. This smells of a Rosenborg 0-1 or 0-2 type of match in which they do enough to win and perhaps dominate the game physically. With both Islamovic and Børven now on the field together it really gives them an improved attacking dimension and they are a huge threat, especially aerially. Backing the visitors on a -0.75 Asian Handicap makes sense to me. They should get the 3 points and there’s every chance of a 2 or 3 goal margin of victory in the process.

Prediction: 0-2

Recommended bet: Rosenborg -0.75 Asian Handicap @1.85
