Norway Eliteserien – Aalesund v Haugesund Preview (22/8/20)

Match Preview

Aalesund continue to struggle at the bottom of the Eliteserien table. They have just one win to their name all season and already find themselves 6 points adrift of the nearest safe position. I actually think they’ve shown some recent signs of a revival though. They came from behind to beat Start 3-2 and also claimed a 2-2 draw vs Viking. Last Sunday a second half comeback nearly saw them pick up a draw vs Rosenborg. The attacking duo of Niklas Castro and Hólmbert Aron Fridjónsson have linked up really well in recent weeks and the Icelandic striker is the 3rd top scorer in the league. He’s a slight doubt here due to a head injury sustained last weekend but I would expect him to suit up. Aalesund have suffered with injuries and suspensions all season but actually appear to have a squad in better condition for once.

Haugesund travel here in the middle of a very below par season which sees them hovering far too close to the relegation zone for comfort. They are the joint lowest scoring team in the Eliteserien which kind of sums up their problems. Things have shown signs of improving recently at least with key man Ibrahima Wadji offering a strong physical presence upfront. I expect him to cause plenty of problems to the Aalesund defence in this game. Probably the best part of the FKH team is at the back where they don’t usually concede many chances or goals. Last week was a freak match vs Godset where things went wild late on. It looks like left back Alexander Stølås is doubtful due to injury.

The obvious bet in Aalesund games is to back the overs. 12 of their 14 fixtures have been over 2.5 and their fixtures average 4.5 goals per game, which is staggeringly high. At some stage this run will end but until they look capable of keeping a clean sheet then it’s probably wise to just to keep backing goals. The line is only 2.75 because of Haugesund but I would expect them to have chances. Aalesund are far too wide open and make loads of mistakes at the back. The only way the home team can stay competitive is for their own attack force to fire. I’m not sure what the result will be here, maybe a 2-2 draw could be possible. Aalesund are at least showing fighting signs recently so it’s not a guarantee that Haugesund will win as an away favourite in my opinion.

Prediction: 2-2

Recommended bet: Over 2.75 goals @1.93
