Norway Eliteserien – Aalesund v Viking Preview (9/8/20)

Match Preview

Aalesund picked up a vital victory 3-2 against Start in their most recent home match but were then blown away by Sarpsborg 4-0 just a few days later. AFK have such a shambolic defensive record that it’s extremely difficult to trust them in any form. They have conceded a whopping 38 goals in 12 games and haven’t kept a clean sheet in any contest this year. At some stage I expect manager Lars Bohinen will ‘park the bus’ and basically just try to make them as impenetrable as possible. But until we see any evidence of an improvement then we have to presume it will be same old - with a ton of mistakes, bad positioning and continually being exposed. At least they welcome back key playmaker Niklas Castro for this affair. The Chilean controversially weighed in with two assist and won a penalty in that aforementioned Start victory. In Holmbert Fridjonsson they have a decent striker who has bagged 8 goals in 2020.

Viking have definitely underachieved this season and find themselves in 11th position, only just above the relegation spots. I really feel like Viking have picked up the minimum amount of points that was physically possible for them and so many times they’ve lost games late or been a little unlucky. This was always going to be a down sort of campaign though after reaching the dizzy heights of 5th last year in addition to a cup victory. The Viking squad situation is much better now with fewer injuries. I’m not interested in backing the visitors at a price of around 1.95 but over 3.25 is probably worth a nibble. This feels like it’ll be a very open game between two teams who have looked vulnerable defensively.

Prediction: 2-2

Recommended bet: Over 3.25 goals @1.83
