Norway Eliteserien – Kristiansund v Sarpsborg Preview (22/8/20)

Match Preview

Both sides have been in fairly good form recently. Kristiansund had a three match winning run ended when they lost at Odd 2-1 last week. To be honest they didn’t play that badly and on another day could’ve easily drawn. It has been business as usual for KBK this season under Christian Michelsen. He continues to do a fine job with this team getting the maximum out of the squad and coaching up players nicely. Kristiansund often rotate their squad around making the starting XI hard to predict. Even at the goalkeeping position M’Baye and Joahsen have been swapping round in the continued absence of #1 Sean McDermott. Left back Christoffer Aasbak and midfield unit Amidou Diop are doubtful due to injury here. Key men in attack Pellegrino and Kastrati both seem fine right now and should be dangerous as always. Kristiansund have only lost once at home this season and have been a tough nut to crack at their own stadium since achieving promotion a few years ago.

Sarpsborg travel here with the third worst away record in the league and just a solitary victory to their name, which came at Sandefjord. Their most recent road matches have been a concern and resulted in big beatings at Viking (3-0) and Rosenborg (5-1). This will be another tough challenge but at least Sarpsborg have picked up their home form and are now situated comfortably in midtable. An excellent victory vs Molde last week was quite a surprise and an indication of the progress they are making under new manager Mikael Stahre. It doesn’t look like they visitors have any new injuries to worry about and they welcome back defender Bjorn Inge Utvik from suspension.

We might look back on this match and think Kristiasund were quite a big price at 2.20 to win outright. That is why I can’t resist backing them on a -0.25 Asian Handicap. I just think Sarpsborg’s away form is too patchy and that KBK are comfortably the better goal scoring threat. I could see the visitors coming with quite a negative gameplan and playing for a draw but perhaps a moment of class from Pellegrino could be the difference. If we take out their 4-0 victory against Aalesund, lack of goals is often the downfall for Sarpsborg and something like a 1-0 or 2-0 KBK victory is my prediction.

Prediction: 1-0

Recommended bet: Kristiansund -0.25 Asian Handicap @1.92
