Norway Eliteserien – Sandefjord v Bodø/Glimt Preview (16/8/20)

Match Preview

Sandefjord are riding as high as 9th in the table after having won 4 of their last 6 games. I truly believe that Spanish coach Marti Cifuentes is doing a magnificent job here and they are punching well above their weight. On paper, this squad is probably the worst or at least one of the worst in the league. They were probably lucky last week to beat Godset 4-3 away in what was a wild game of football. A key missed penalty by Godset coupled with a bunch of missed chances certainly helped Sandefjord, who stole the game right at the death. One negative was the sending off of centre back Martin Kreuzriegler who will now be suspended for this game. That could be crucial because since he arrived at the club Sandefjord’s record has been pretty good. They have won their last 3 matches at home including the shock 2-1 victory vs Molde.

Bodø/Glimt travel here top of the table by four  points, and with a game in hand against big rivals Molde. However, they themselves have been slipping some points recently by drawing both of their last two away games 2-2. Both of those were on a grass surface and against sides in the south of the country and there is a similar situation here. Glimt will probably still feel they should have a 100% record the amount of chances they’ve missed recently but I think their defence suddenly looks vulnerable. Injuries haven’t helped and centre back Brede Moe is ruled out here. Important left wing back Fredrik André Bjørkan is rated doubtful and #1 keeper Joshua Smits is also carrying a knock. The leading goalscorer in the division Kasper Junker is also slightly doubtful to feature but may well suit up. Glimt have enough attacking firepower to compensate anyway with the likes of Victor Boniface waiting in the wings.

I’ve been stung a few times betting against Sandefjord recently so taking the Glimt -1 or -1.5 handicap doesn’t interest me. I could see the home team having a proper go here and being a threat themselves/ Therefore, I think over 3.5 goals is the better bet. I think until Glimt matches show signs of slowing down then over is always the better pick. Something like a 3-2 or 3-1 away win is what I expect.

Prediction: 1-3

Recommended bet: Over 3.5 goals @2.01
