Start are second bottom of the table and would’ve been pleased to have a week off after what was a brutal period of matches. Start probably haven’t been as bad as their results suggest and were more competitive against the likes of Molde and Kristiansund than some might think. It took them a long time to get their first victory of the season which came in their most recent home game vs MIF. Draws against teams like Brann, Rosenborg and Stabaek can’t be dismissed and with a bit more luck and clinicality at key stages they might have picked up more points. The squad looks in reasonable enough condition tonight with no new injuries to worry about. I expect a balanced, maybe slightly defensive minded 4-2-3-1 formation to be employed tonight.
Vålerenga travel here 5th in the table and having only lost twice all season. Those defeats were to Odd and Molde who are top three sides right now so I think you have to say that Fagermo’s start at VIF has been quite strong. I bang on about this every week but he has generally installed more discipline, organisation and belief into this side. They came from behind to earn a 2-2 draw with Bodø/Glimt last week and their play certainly merited a point. Starting right back Christian Borchgrevink is suspended and young talented midfielder Osame Sahraoui is rated doubtful.
Three have been a lot of goals in the Eliteserien recently but I think there’s a chance that this fixture is more of an under type match. The natural instinct of Start is to be more cautious and they have conceded a lot of goals recently which makes me think that the manager will possibly have an emphasis on solid approach. I could see Vålerenga nicking this one something like 0-1 or 0-2 but we have seen Start frustrate a few sides this season so a draw wouldn’t totally surprise me either. I will leave this match alone and wait for the next round for some pre match bets.
