France Ligue 2 – Dunkerque v Le Havre Preview (24/10/20)

Match Preview

The newly promoted side have 10 points on the board but have lost 3 of their last 4 games. That said, they are unbeaten at home since gracing the Ligue 2 turf this season. This match will be played behind closed doors due to some new local restrictions which may or may not have some impact. An enlarged group of players has been named ahead of the match due to some injury doubts. Midfielder Nicholas Bruneel is definitely ruled out but it's possible some others like Thibault Vialla, Ilan Kebbal and Malik Tchokounte might not be passed fit either. Dunkerque are a hard working side and can be tough nut to crack. Even in the matches they’ve lost I have noticed a strong competitive spirit and determination.

Le Havre

HAC are extremely inconsistent and you really don’t know what sort of result or performance they will churn out week to week. To be brutally honest I haven’t been that impressed with them this season and I was disappointed with an inability to beat Chateauroux last week (1-1). The really bad news for them ahead of this affair is the injury to top striker Jamal Thiare. It really feels like they rely on him far too much in attack and he has actually stepped up his game this year. Without Thiare on the field HAC could be quite toothless. The visitors are also missing left winger Umut Meras and playmaker from midfield Jean Pascal Fontaine. Le Havre have won 2 and lost 2 games on the road this season and might need to lean on their defence for a result here.

Conclusion & Betting analysis

I don’t see this being a particularly thrilling affair. Immediately, my first thought was to back the unders in some form but the bookies aren’t stupid and have priced the line up around the 1.75 mark. This is entirely warranted in my opinion and I struggle to see where the goals are going to come from. Dunkerque haven’t managed to score more than once in a match all season, whilst half of Le Havre’s tally came in one fixture. With the visitors missing Jamal Thiare it doesn’t bode well for them. I see this ending a 0-0 draw or a 1-0 either way, maybe decided by a set piece or a mistake. I’m not going to bet the under because the line and price just isn’t there, but I’d say this is set to be a very tight contest.
