France Ligue 2 – Le Havre v Chateauroux Preview (17/10/20)

Match Preview

Le Havre

It has been an up and down start for HAC this season. They have won 3 and lost 3 matches so far and picked up a bunch of red cards along the way! I haven’t personally been that impressed by them in many fixtures but Le Havre can be an effective side under Paul Le Guen. I still think the major problem for this team is scoring goals. The loss of striker Tino Kadwere is a big blow and they can’t expect Jamal Thiare to be red hot in every match. Le Havre recently signed ex Strasbourg striker Khaled Boutaib who should be a useful addition, although he isn't ready yet and not included in the squad here. Le Havre at least have a squad in good health and pretty much everyone is available. This will only be the 3rd time they’ve played at Le Stade Oceane this season. Previous results were a grinding 1-0 victory vs Amiens and a late loss to Niort (0-1).

As per usual, head coach Nicolas Usai usually finds a way to get enough results and points to keep Chateauroux above water. An important and perhaps surprising 2-0 victory vs Niort last time out was a nice way for them to enter the international break. La Berrichonne have some defensive absences here which will be of concern. Nama Fofana and Ibrahim Cisse are suspended and Chaker Alhadur not included in the squad. Key playmaker Romain Grange is injured. I am always worried that Chateauroux lack enough bite and attacking firepower. Things could be even worse without Grange. The club recently announced that two players have tested positive for COVID-19.

Conclusion & Betting analysis

Le Havre beat Chateauroux 3-0 back in February fairly convincingly. They are the better side but can blow too hot and cold and I never feel like I can trust them enough. However, I do sense that HAC get the job done here. They are at full strength and this feels like a good time to face their opponent. I’m going to take Le Havre on the nose at 2.05 to get the 3 points. If they let me down and drew 0-0 or something then I wouldn’t be shocked but this should be the sort of match in which their extra quality and overall depth helps them get over the line. Chateauroux are no mugs but are limited and I don;t see them scoring here. It feels like a 1-0 or 2-0 sort of victory for Le Havre.

Prediction: 2-0
