VAFC have won 3 and lost 3 matches so far. They have a 100% home record but have yet to pick up a point on the road. The good news is that Olivier Guegan’s side are at home here. The bad news for Valenciennes is that they have three suspensions to worry about. The defensive duo Joffrey Cuffaut and Sessi D’Almeida are probably the most worrisome of those. In attack Baptise Guillaume remains banned and Malik Chergui out injured long term. The big strength of this VA team is usually at the back where they have a knack of keeping a lot of clean sheets, especially at Le Stade de Hainault. Under this manager VA are best known for having numerous under 2.5 games and it’s rare that both teams score in any of their fixtures.
Les Lionceaux are actually the only remaining unbeaten team in Ligue 2 and similar to last season manager Omar Daf has got them firing early doors. Sochaux have been surprisingly good in front of goal this season, only misfiring in one contest so far. They look in a decent rhythm and good form. The squad is also in fairly decent health with only long term injuries on the sidelines. Sochaux have no suspensions for today. Their away matches have ended 2-0, 0-0 and 1-1 so far and in general been quite low key containing fewer chances. On the road Daf usually sets up his side hard to break down.
Conclusion & Betting analysis
If Valenciennes were at full strength I would probably take a nibble of them here on a DNB handicap around the 1.80 mark. This is a generous price on what is generally a strong home team this season. However, the three suspensions in addition to Sochaux’s decent form kind of puts me off. Last year’s fixture ended in a wild 3-2 which was totally unexpected but I think we are more likely to see a tight and cagey affair. A 0-0 or 1-1 draw is going to be my prediction and I did consider backing under 2 goals, but again the double defensive suspension for Valenciennes puts me off.
