Norway Eliteserien – Sandefjord v Vålerenga Preview (18/10/20)

Match Preview

Last time out Sandefjord gave a really good account of themselves away to Glimt where they only just succumbed 1-2. Credit for Marti Cifuentes for creating a good tactical gameplan in that fixture, and in the clash against Molde which they won 1-0. Sandefjoird have had some really tough games recently and that run continues here with Vålerenga coming to town. I think this is a team well set up as the underdog though against big teams. Cifuentes makes his side hard to break down but they are a big threat on the break and from set pieces. The squad has been gradually improved all year and they have nobody of significance ruled out with new injuries or suspensions.

I was personally disappointed with Vålerenga’s performance against Glimt a few weeks ago but they bounced back by thumping Mjøndalen 4-1. That bodes well for them here because Sandefjord are similar sort of opposition. Key central midfielder Fredrik Oldrup Jensen is rated doubtful with injury but Aaron Donnum returns from suspension. ‘Enga have one of the best looking attack forces in the league now that Kjarantsson is in their ranks. This is a team that has the potential to score a lot of goals but it’s been a long time since they kept a clean sheet. Vålerenga also have issues on the road with only a 3-2-5 record which is just the 9th best in the league. They don’t travel particularly well.

Conclusion & Betting analysis

The reverse fixture ended 2-1 to Vålerenga but Sandefjord led for the majority of that contest and it needed two late goals to secure victory. I sense this will be a difficult and awkward test for the visitors. They are much the better team on paper and have the individual quality to win this game on a moment of magic if needed. I have a feeling ‘Enga will nick a victory, but it could be close to something like 0-1 or 1-2. I wouldn’t feel comfortable backing them at a price around evens. Sandefjord can be a real tough nut to crack and will often dig their heels in. It wouldn’t actually shock me if they managed to pick up some points here if some luck goes their way.
