Norway Eliteserien – Strømsgodset v Start Preview (18/10/20)

Match Preview

Strømsgodset

Five draws in a row have inched Godset to 10th in the table but they can feel regret about a couple of two goal leads they gave away against both Viking and Rosenborg. Manager Henrik Pedersen won’t know how they didn’t win either of those games but crucially their defence folded late in both contests. The SIF backline has actually improved of late though and even kept consecutive clean sheets vs Sandefjord and Sarpsborg. The return of Duplexe Tchamba was a big boost and has helped solidify them. One of the Godset players, Krshnik Krasniqi tested positive for COVID-19 following international duty, whilst a couple of others Ingimundarson and Leifsson are in isolation. None of these guys are regular starters though. Godset have a mixed 3-4-3 home record this season which is ok but not exactly formidable either.

Start

The visitors gave themselves a huge boost in the fight against relegation by hammering Haugesund 5-1 last time out. They are currently situated in the relegation playoff spot but a victory here would move them to within 2 points of safety. The big problem for Start is a terrible 0-2-7 away record, actually the worst in the league. They haven’t travelled very well scoring just 7 goals and conceding 24 times on the road. This would be a good time to change and improve those statistics. It looks like Start are in good condition health wise with no new injuries or suspensions to worry about.

Conclusion & Betting analysis

This is a tough game to call. There is pressure on both sides right now. Godset can’t afford a defeat otherwise the relegation zone will be right on their shoulders and honestly a draw wouldn’t be a bad result. Mjøndalen’s victory against Brann on Saturday was hardly good news for either side and the comfort zone that Start earned by beating Haugesund 5-1 last time out has all but vanished. I keep looking at the Start away record and worry for them. It could be the crucial factor here and if I had to stick my neck out I’d say Godset win something like 2-1. But their odds are nothing special around the 1.90 mark and with such a lot at stake I think it’s a match best swerved.
