Norway Eliteserien – Aalesund v Vålerenga Preview (21/11/20)

Match Preview

Aalesund

  • Rock bottom with 18/24 defeats and could in theory be close to official relegation this weekend
  • Recent 1-0 success at Haugesund overshadowed by taking a 7-0 battering off Bodø/Glimt last time out
  • Conceded a whopping 71 goals and kept just one clean sheet all year
  • Key playmaker Niklas Castro and midfielders Peter Orry Larsen + Fredrik Carlsen likely ruled out of this match

Vålerenga

  • 7 out of 10 wins has them up to 4th place and strongly challenging for the medal spots
  • Improved defence with 3 clean sheets in their last 5, keeping things tight
  • Squad in great condition with no major injuries or suspensions
  • Away record improving after losing 4 road games in a row mid season

Conclusion & Betting analysis

The crazy thing was that Aalesund actually did well to restrict Glimt to just seven goals a couple of weeks ago. They were playing a top class outfit there but Aalesund know the game is up this season and they have little to play for. For them to get a decent result here they are going to need some luck like really poor weather (which looks possible) or another heroic goalkeeping display from Gudmund Kongshavn. The main concern here is a forecast of up to 50-55mph winds in Aalesund around match time. This is SERIOUSLY windy and in my experience those sort of conditions can lead to a lower scoring contest. There’s a chance these conditions are a great equaliser and allowed AFK to compete better, making some parts of the game a lottery. I would have liked Vålerenga -1.25 under normal circumstances and conditions but can’t pick anything now. Maybe there’s a chance the game gets postponed or put back 24 hours or something, let’s wait and see.
