France Ligue 2 – Chambly v Auxerre Preview (20/2/20)

Match Preview

  • Missing over a dozen players due to COVID or injury
  • Coaching staff also affected
  • Actual starting XI not ‘a total shocker’ but they have literally zero bench depth here
  • Put up an admirable fight vs Clermont last week, only losing 0-1
  • 4-2-7 home record is the 4th worst in the league

  • Just 1 win in last 5 games has halted Auxerre’s automatic promotion bid
  • 3-5-4 away record is only good enough for 10th best in the league
  • Their 46 goals scored this season is the 2nd highest out of anyone
  • Playmaker Mathias Autret is the only significant absentee today

Conclusion & Betting analysis

You have to give Chambly credit for digging in last week under difficult circumstances and only losing 0-1 at Clermont. They did struggle in the 2nd half though and could have easily been trounced 2 or 3 nil in the end if Clermont took chances. Chambly have been rocked by COVID cases, injuries and just general disruption recently. I have to think at some stage this is all going to rear its ugly head and someone smashes them. It could easily be today because Auxerre are the sort of relentless team, who when in the mood can really create chances at will. The previous meeting this season ended 4-0 to Auxerre and last season they won 4-1 at this venue. The visitors should have more than enough to prevail very comfortably, for me it’s just a question of how many goals they win by. The Chambly likely starting XI isn’t as bad as some might think but lets not forget Auxerre are by far the better team anyway and would be odds-on to win even under normal circumstances. Backing the visitors on a -1 Asian Handicap makes sense to me. At very least they should surely win but I’m thinking along the lines of 0-3 or 0-4 here and I expect Chambly to struggle mightily.

Prediction: 0-3

Recommended bet: Auxerre -1 Asian Handicap @ 1.99
