France Ligue 2 – Ajaccio v Valenciennes Preview (3/4/21)

Match Preview

Ajaccio

  • 5 defeats in last 6 games means Ajaccio are now only 5 points from safety
  • Mixed 6-4-5 home record this season. Lost 2 of their last 3 here
  • Joint lowest scoring team with just 24 goals
  • Winger/attacker Cyrille Bayala is suspended

Valenciennes

  • Only picked up 1 victory in last 8 games and out of form a bit
  • Sitting comfortably on 40 points and in midtable
  • Won 10, drawn 10 and lost 10 games this season, sums up their inconsistency
  • Failed to win any of their last 5 away matches
  • Key wing back Joffrey Cuffaut is suspended

Conclusion & Betting analysis

Neither team is in great form right now. Valenciennes have really drifted off, although beating Toulouse and coming back to draw 2-2 vs Auxerre recently shows they still aren’t mugs. More motivation is probably with the home team because ACA are only 5 points above the relegation zone now. They have a more immediate need to get points, whilst VAFC are locked comfortably in midtable. You never really know what you are going to get with Valenciennes so I wouldn't be comfortable backing Ajaccio at an odds-on price. Were they more generous around say the 2.25 mark I might be interested but their lack of goals and maybe even an acceptance for a draw puts me off. I suspect something like a 1-0 home win or a low scoring draw is the most likely outcome.
