France Ligue 2 – Grenoble v Chateauroux Preview (3/4/21)

Match Preview

  • Defeat to Paris FC (0-2) in their most recent match was body blow in the promotion battle
  • That loss was just their first in 8 games but Grenoble have been dropping too many cheap points recently
  • 9-5-0 home record (still unbeaten) but 3 consecutive draws at Le Stade des Alpes have hindered them badly
  • 21 out of 30 matches ended under 2.5 goals this season
  • Squad at full health apart from longer term injuries (Maubleu GK, Perez DM)

  • Now a massive 11 points adrift of safety and it looks like their race is run this season
  • Since manager Marco Simeone took over, they picked up consecutive draws vs Sochaux & Caen
  • Terrible 1-5-9 away record has been one of the main reasons for their struggle
  • Defensive duo Nama Fofana & Kalidou Sidibe are both suspended

Conclusion & Betting analysis

Chateauroux are now on their 3rd coach for the season but it looks like Marco Simeone has at least instilled some fighting spirit recently. The players have said they will fight until the bitter end in their relegation battle, even though the situation looks bleak. All of the pressure is on Grenoble here. They are expected to win and are right bang in the promotion race. I am concerned about some recent home draws, but let’s not forget they have yet to suffer defeat here this season. It’s for that reason why I can't resist taking Grenoble on the nose at even money. Let’s just look at things logically. They have the better squad and better players and if they get ahead then there's a good chance Chateauroux will just fold. Yes, there is the pressure aspect to contend with but the Alpine club should be a much shorter price to win in my opinion.

Prediction: 2-0
