France Ligue 2 – Troyes v Guingamp Preview (3/4/21)

Match Preview

  • Consecutive defeats to both Nancy (1-5) and Amiens (1-3) have derailed their promotion bid
  • Still 3 points clear at the top but under a lot more pressure than a few weeks ago
  • Excellent 11-3-1 home record, if we excuse the freak Nancy defeat
  • Def/mid and captain Jimmy Giraudon is suspended

  • Back inside the relegation zone but accumulated a few points recently
  • Only lost 1 of last 7 games
  • Have seen an upturn in results and performance since interim coach Fred Bompard took charge
  • 2-8-5 home record is the 2nd worst in the league and been a huge problem for them this season
  • Left back Logan Ndembe still injured

Conclusion & Betting analysis

Both teams need the points for different reasons. Troyes are still well situated in the promotion race but successive defeats have put them under pressure. Guingamp meanwhile, are 3rd bottom and currently in the relegation playoff spot. I actually sense the visitors have the better momentum right now and for once are playing with less pressure than their opponents. My bet for this game is going to be over 2.25 goals because I think both sides will go for it. Troyes can’t afford to drop any more points and Guingamp are in a desperate situation, even if a draw wouldn’t be a bad result. I would say the extra quality and class of the hosts will probably prevail but at odds of 1.73 it simply doesn’t interest me to back ESTAC. Guingamp have some quality themselves and could be dangerous on the break, so can’t be ruled out.

Prediction: 2-1

Recommended bet: Over 2.25 goals @ 1.86
