Norway Eliteserien – Haugesund v Viking Preview (30/5/21)

Match Preview

Haugesund

  • Draw first two matches 0-0 then lost 0-2 to Bodo/Glimt
  • They are the only team in Eliteserien 2021 yet to score a goal
  • Defence their main strength, struggling to create from open play
  • Injury situation decent with nobody ruled out

Viking

  • Inconsistent with 3 wins and 2 losses so far
  • Might have found some form after winning back to back games
  • Right back Sondre Bjorshol likely out along with Kristoffer Lokberg
  • Key striker Veton Berisha now gone 4 games without a goal

Conclusion & Betting

This is a fairly tough match to predict and feels like a very even contest. Haugesund look solid and could be hard to break down here but they are struggling to score goals. Viking appear in better form but there is an inconsistent nature to them which makes me think they are due a poor result again. This is a local derby match and usually quite tight. I could see it being an under 2.5 match and the under 2.75 line is very tempting. Viking have had 4 out of 5 overs though and will likely try and open the match up. I would say a draw is the most likely outcome and 1-1 feels about right. It could even be a 0-0 again based on Haugesund previous results. Tough match to predict and bet on, so I’ll leave this well alone.

Prediction: 1-1

Norway Eliteserien – Vålerenga v Sandefjord Preview (30/5/21)

Match Preview

Vålerenga

  • Surprise win 3-2 away to Molde on Thursday might kick-start their season
  • Had previously only won 1 of first 4 games and not quite clicked
  • Yet to win at home this season - one draw and one loss so far
  • Osame Sahraoui & Ivan Nasberg once again doubtful because of injury

Sandefjord

  • Gut wrenching 92nd minute loser vs Rosenborg on Thursday will hurt
  • Sandefjord have played well after losing their opening match 0-3 to Mjøndalen
  • Had the 6th best away record last season and are better on the road
  • Still missing a bunch of players to injury, including last year’s top scorer Sivert Gussias

Conclusion & Betting

I suspect that Vålerenga will win this match and they may well win it comfortably. They should take a big confidence boost out of beating Molde 3-2 on Thursday night, although on the flip side they put a lot into that game and could be slightly flat here. They haven’t played very well as a big favourite yet this season, failing against both Kristiansund & Mjondalen. Sandefjord will be no mugs if they perform as they did vs Rosenborg, unlucky to lose 2-1 in the last minute. But they have a fairly small squad and will likely struggle in a week like this one where the fixtures add up. I sense something like 2-0 or 3-0 but I’m happy to leave this match alone. The Asian Handicap line is effectively -1.5 or -1.25 at a poorer price. If they win by one goal exactly then you would lose something so this is a no bet from me.

Prediction: 2-0

Norway Eliteserien – Tromsø v Sarpsborg Preview (30/5/21)

Match Preview

Tromsø

  • 5 points from 5 games on their return to Eliteserien is a good return for Tromsø
  • Played well in patches, often against some good teams. Plenty of positives
  • Most recent home match, a 1-3 loss to Sandefjord is of concern
  • Injury doubts to wing back Nilsen & midfielder Antonsen
  • CB Gundersen & striker Runar Espejord definitely ruled out

Sarpsborg

  • Two draws out of three games so far has been fairly uninspiring
  • Gone 13 Eliteserien matches without a win now, stretching back to last season
  • Usually poor on the road, only won twice away all of last year
  • No new injuries or suspensions to deal with

Conclusion & Betting

Tromsø look a good price to me on a -0.25 Asian Handicap line. I backed them at home to Sandefjord and they simply didn’t deliver, perhaps succumbing to high expectations and almost believing their own hype. I don’t expect a similar problem facing a Sarpsborg side that have actually now not won in the league for 13 games! Mickael Stahre’s side have drawn a lot of contests but he is sucking the life out of this team with a negative approach and they simply don’t offer enough offensively. I could see TIL winning this 1-0 or 2-0 and for the northern outfit to pick up their first home win of the season. The draw is always in play for Sarpsborg but with a -0.25 AH line then there’s some cover at least.

Prediction: 2-0

Recommended bet: Tromsø -0.25 AH @1.87

Norway Eliteserien – Rosenborg v Stabaek Preview (30/5/21)

Match Preview

Rosenborg

  • Another late win, 2-1 vs Sandefjord on Thursday evening puts them in 2nd place
  • Only lost 1 out of 6 games so far and look extremely hungry to challenge for medals this year
  • Eyjolfsson (CB), Henriksen (DM) along with Vecchia & Holse (wingers) all set to miss out
  • Hectic schedule, this is their 4th game in the space of 11 days
  • Strong home record and usually reliable at the Lerkendal Stadion

Stabaek

  • Unbeaten start after 3 games and kept 2 consecutive clean sheets
  • Victory against Brann on Thursday (2-0) was their first of this campaign
  • Winger Oliver Edvardsen is a doubt with injury
  • Inconsistent side capable of pretty much anything on the day

Conclusion & Betting

I quite like what I see from Rosenborg at the moment. They definitely seem a lot better than in recent years and it is their mental approach which has impressed me the most. This team will keep fighting right until the final whistle and has already scored a number of late goals this year. There is a steely determination and hunger from all of their players, it’s clear they want success. Some injuries are starting to pile up and it has been an exhausting fixture schedule for RBK. This will be their 4th game in the space of 11 days and even I have to wonder what will be left in their tank. This has the potential to be a banana skin type of fixture because Stabaek are dangerous on the day and have caused problems to RBK in recent years. The 1.50 odds and -1 Asian handicap line on the hosts feels about right. I’m not going to get involved and I think the most likely result is Rosenborg to win by exactly one goal. This could also end over 2.5 but the goal line is as high as 3 so I’ll just sit back and watch this game.

Prediction: 2-1

Norway Eliteserien – Odd v Bodø/Glimt Preview (30/5/21)

Match Preview

Odd

  • Winless after 3 games and lost 0-1 to Lillestrom on Thursday evening
  • Defensive problems with Owusu & Hagen both doubtful and Ruud out longer term
  • No clean sheet yet and have looked vulnerable
  • Striker Mushaga Bakenga looks fairly sharp but rest of offense is misfiring

Bodø/Glimt

  • 13 points on the board after 5 games sees them top of the league and unbeaten
  • Kept 3 out of 5 clean sheets this season
  • Centre backs Brede Moe & Marius Lode doubtful with injury
  • Beat Odd 6-1 and 4-0 last season

Conclusion & Betting

I don’t get why Bodø/Glimt are such a big price here. They are still the best team in the league and this isn’t a particularly difficult fixture. They absolutely battered Odd twice last season, and that was when Odd had a full complement of defenders available to them. I think it’s fair to say that Glimt haven’t reached top gear yet offensively this season but they are controlling games quite well. They themselves could miss Lode & Moe at the back but Marius Hoibraten can do a decent job filling in if needed. I was tempted by the overs as well in this game but the lower scoring matches from both this year kind of puts me off. I could see something 0-2 or 0-3, maybe Odd might grab a goal through Bakenga or something. I would totally take a -0.75 or -1 Asian Handicap but Glimt can be backed at a price of 1.78 on the nose which is more than good enough for me.

Prediction: 0-2

Recommended bet: Bodø/Glimt -0.5 AH @ 1.78

Norway Eliteserien – Kristiansund v Lillestrøm Preview (30/5/21)

Match Preview

Kristiansund

  • After a sticky start to the season KBK have won 3 consecutive matches
  • Only conceded 1 goal in last 3 games and 4 out of 5 matches ended under 2.5
  • Squad condition good with only defenders Bent Sormo & D P Ulvestad doubtful
  • Loads of depth to the squad and they can rotate and keep things fresh

Lillestrøm

  • Finally 3 points for LSK as they beat Odd 1-0 on Thursday night
  • Much needed victory after a very poor start when they lost first two games 1-3
  • Still finding their feet in Eliteserien again and several new players need to be integrated
  • Injury situation suite promising with only midfielder Ulrik Mathisen doubtful

Conclusion & Betting

Kristiansund continue to defy expectations and rack up points. They don’t have that many special players but have a really good all round squad and are managed excellently by Christian Michelsen. KBK are a counter attacking side who like to have low possession and it will be interesting to see if they can get Lillestrøm to play into their trap. Based on what I’ve seen this season Kristiansund will probably win this game in a tight encounter, something like 1-0 or 2-0. Lillestrøm might be feeling better after beating Odd but this will actually be a much tougher fixture. I’m going to back KBK but prefer some draw cover so taking the -0.25 Asian Handicap at a poorer price is my preference. I don’t expect this to be a classic but the home side know how to get results at the moment.

Prediction: 2-0

Recommended bet: Kristiansund -0.25 Asian Handicap @ 1.74

Norway Eliteserien – Brann v Strømsgodset Preview (30/5/21)

Match Preview

Brann

  • Lost all 6 league matches so far and rock bottom of the table
  • Everything is going wrong for Brann, a missed penalty on Thursday cost them badly
  • Have had some really tough fixtures and this perhaps seems more manageable
  • Injury situation is at least positive with few concerns

Strømsgodset

  • Four points on the board after 3 games is not a bad return for SIF
  • Played better than expected and the team is enjoying itself more
  • Not known for being very good away from home
  • Left back Jonathan Parr doubtful with injury and Nico Mickelson likely still out again

Conclusion & Betting

Brann have now got into a situation where nothing is going right for them. There’s an old saying that bad things happen to bad teams and I’m starting to worry for Brann. They had shown some positive signs and I honestly expected them to get something against Stabaek on Thursday night. They played alright but a key missed penalty at 0-0 just sums up their season so far. I actually think this is another good chance for them to pick up at least a point but at odds of 2.20 I’m not interested in backing them. Godset haven’t actually been too bad this season but I wouldn’t trust them either. Brann are so desperate for points right now that I think they can maybe end their drought but honestly anything could happen in this game.

Prediction: 2-1

Norway Eliteserien – Mjøndalen v Molde Preview (30/5/21)

Match Preview

Mjøndalen

  • Lost late against Viking on Thursday (1-2) which was their first defeat this season
  • Performed well so far but this has been a tough week for fixtures
  • Veteran midfielder & skipper Christian Gauseth is injured
  • Drew 1-1 vs Valerenga in their only home match so far

Molde

  • Rocked by a stunning 2-3 home defeat to Vålerenga on Thursday night.
  • It ended what was an unbeaten start and will be interesting to see how they respond
  • Molde can sometimes fall asleep in away matches against lesser teams
  • Looks like no new injuries or suspensions to worry about

Conclusion & Betting

You can back Molde around the 1.65 mark, which normally I might not be interested in away to Mjøndalen. Molde have actually won the last four H2H meetings but have often laboured to success against MIF and individual quality has saved them. Mjøndalen can be an awkward side to break down, quite physical and dangerous from set pieces. However, in a week where the fixtures have been plentiful then it makes sense to back Molde. They have a lot of squad depth and loads of quality which make a big difference during these sorts of periods. I also think they will be fully focused and motivated after losing to Vålerenga. Molde know they can’t afford to slip up and drop points in games like this one. I don’t like the -0.75 Asian handicap price so I will be boring and just back Molde straight on the nose @1.67. They should find a way to get the 3 points here against a Mjøndalen side who might be quite tired.

Prediction: 1-3

Recommended bet: Molde -0.5 Asian Handicap @ 1.67

Norway Eliteserien – Stabaek v Brann Preview (27/5/21)

Match Preview

Stabaek

  • Drawn both matches to start the season, 2-2 vs Odd and 0-0 vs Haugesund
  • Do not seem fully sharp yet and slightly off the pace
  • Squad in good condition with a clean bill of health
  • Only won 5 out of 15 home matches last season

Brann

  • Rock bottom of the table after losing first 5 matches
  • Had a brutal fixture list and on paper this is their best chance yet
  • Encouraging performances against Rosenborg & Bodo/Glimt is a positive
  • Injury situation is decent with few problems in this area

Conclusion & Betting

Call me crazy but I am strongly tempted by Brann +0.25 tonight. They have lost all 5 league games but I kind of liked what I saw vs Rosenborg and Bodo/Glimt. They were unfortunate to lose both games late but if they are close to getting a result facing teams like that then surely they can beat Stabaek? It is still very early days for Stabaek this season. They have only drawn both games, 2-2 vs Odd and 1-1 vs Haugesund. I thought they were 2nd best in both games and didn’t look that great. That doesn’t bode well and the lack of a clinical striker is still an issue in my opinion. I just sense Brann will be hungry and motivated more to get the result and absolutely desperate to end their losing run. Having played 5 league games they are more up to speed physically and should in theory be sharper. I will keep my discipline and not bet anything. How can you really take a team who have lost 5/5 league games? Brann can win here though IMO. They look a big price on a +0.25 handicap and this was a mightily tempting option.

Prediction:1-2

Norway Eliteserien – Molde v Vålerenga Preview (27/5/21)

Match Preview

Molde

  • Unbeaten start with 10 points on the board
  • Won 27 of last 32 home matches in the Eliteserien
  • Eirik Ulland is a new injury doubt but no other fresh concerns
  • Massive squad depth which can help out in these busy weeks

Vålerenga

  • Just 1 win first 4 games was not the start that Vålerenga envisaged
  • Struggling to click and find form offensively. Misfiring a lot
  • Only won 5 out of 15 away games last season and tend to draw too many
  • Young talent Osame Sahraoui & CB Ivan Nasberg unlikely to play due to injury

Conclusion & Betting

Molde are the better team, it’s as simple as that. Valerenga have really disappointed me this season and if they keep playing as they have been then this will end up as a comfortable home win. Molde are usually really strong at the Aker Stadion against anyone, but especially against bigger teams they seem to raise their game more. You just know that in the really big moments in both boxes it will be Molde who are more clinical and hold their nerve. Molde have won 27 of their last 32 home Eliteserien matches so backing them at a price of 1.75 just to win on the nose seems way too big to ignore. They are the obvious pick and a no brainer selection.

Prediction: 3-1

Recommended bet: Molde -0.5 Asian Handicap @ 1.75
