France Ligue 2 – Sochaux v Caen Preview (15/1/22)

Match Preview

  • 1-0 victory away to Le Havre last week moved them up to 5th place
  • 5-3-2 home record has been quite strong
  • 9 out of 10 home games ended with under 2.5 goals
  • Joseph Lopy (DM) & Steve Ambri (Att) are on CAN duty

  • Down to 15th place after just 1 win in last 9 games
  • Yet to play so far in 2022
  • Drawn 6 out of 9 away games
  • Several absences including top scorer Alexandre Mendy who is suspended

I think Sochaux will win this match but their price is a really poor one around the 1.70-75 mark. Those odds are just too short for me to back because in recent times they’ve dropped home points against the likes of Nimes, Valenciennes and Quevilly-Rouen. They shouldn’t have though and effectively dominated all of those contests. That makes me think that Sochaux are probably better than some of their results suggest and that they can have some regrets about not winning certain games.

Caen have really underachieved this season and it has surprised me how poor they’ve been at times under Stephane Moulin. He will eventually sort this club out but it is looking like a more long term project than I expected. The visitors have several absences here whether it be injuries, COVID or even a CAN call up in the case of left back Aly Abeid. This will be the first time they have played a competitive match since 21st December so it might be they need the run out and lack match sharpness. I am actually quite confident in Sochaux winning but their terrible price and some recent home wobbles put me off. I think 1-0 or or 2-0 are likely.

Prediction: 2-0
