France Ligue 2 – Toulouse v Pau Preview (15/1/22)

Match Preview

  • On 37 points and a win would take them top of the table
  • Strong 5-3-1 home record this season
  • 4 of their last 5 home games ended with over 2.5 goals
  • The only absentee is defender Issiaga Sylla (CAN duty)

  • Excellent 4-0 win vs Rodez last week ended a run of 3 straight defeats
  • Over 2.5 goals in 5 of their last 6 games
  • 1-2-6 away record is the 2nd worst in the league
  • Squad in good condition with no major absences

Somewhat of a local derby here in the southwest of France and I think it will be a good game of football. Toulouse home matches tend to be fast paced and quite energetic containing a lot of chances. When they play to their best they are the top team in this league and it is usually only the really strong rigid defensive sides who can cause them problems. Pau are not really of that mould and I expect them to come here and actually have a go. Pau managed to draw this fixture 2-2 last season and are no mugs. They don't travel very well and have a poor away record but cannot be underestimated.

Toulouse are priced around the 1.50 mark to win and that is fair. The Asian Handicap is -1 and there’s a good chance they will cover that line and win with plenty to spare. I think a better bet is over 2.5 goals though at a decent 1.91 price. Both teams are at near full strength and I would say it’s likely both teams score. Toulouse have only kept one clean sheet in their last 7 games and can sometimes be weak at the back. Something like a 3-1 or 4-1 home win feels about right but in case of a 2-1 or even a 2-2 draw the over seems like the better pick in my opinion.

Prediction: 3-1

Recommended bet: Over 2.5 goals @1.91
