France Ligue 1 – Troyes v Lyon Preview (22/10/17)

Match Preview

This should be an interesting game but I’m uncertain about it because of Nice’s inconsistent form this season. There is no doubt in my mind that European matches have really influenced this team and they've struggled to juggle it with domestic matters. They miss two key players for this match, Mario Balotelli and Jean Michael Seri. The impact this will have can't be underestimated. Strasbourg are still missing some players too, but keep the exact same group that drew 3-3 with Marseille last week. I was tempted by the overs, but at 1.80 the value simply isn't there. This should be a good one to view, but betting wise it’s probably best to leave alone.

I don’t rate Troyes much, but in this instance I think they are underrated a little bit. Maybe it’s a case of Lyon being overrated. I’m surprised they are around the 1.90 mark -1 Asian Handicap. OL play on the road after a bruising midweek Europa League match against Everton. They have a few key players who aren’t quite 100% at the moment and I could see them putting on a sluggish under par sort of display today. For Troyes, this will be like a cup final and to their credit they are maximising their points obtained this season, a lot of things have been going their way. I think Lyon might just find a way to win, but at these prices I wouldn't want to be backing them.

France Ligue 1 – Rennes v Lille Preview (21/10/17)

Match Preview

Both team are struggling and have just 2 wins between them all season. Confidence is low in both camps and with Rennes especially missing a bunch of attacking players, I could see this being a low scorer. Under 2.25 tempted me, but then I remembered that Marcelo Bielsa is involved, and when that's the case anything can literally happen! Probably the hardest match of the night to predict and neither team have shown anything of late that they deserve to be backed.

France Ligue 1 – Nantes v Guingamp Preview (21/10/17)

Match Preview

This could be a tight match between two fairly good sides. Nantes especially have become an extremely solid and effective unit under Claudio Ranieri. Ultimately, I don't think much will separate either team come the final whistle, but I believe Nantes are worth backing on a -0.25 handicap. The visitors will miss the influential Yannis Salibur and could struggle to break down a resolute Nantes defence. We may see yet another Canaries 1-0 victory here.

Prediction: 1-0

France Ligue 1 – Metz v Dijon Preview (21/10/17)

Match Preview

This is a battle between two teams inside the relegation zone who have just 2 wins between them all season! Neither side can be trusted, but both are better than their league position suggests. It's worth noting that the fixture list hasn't been kind to either too. I'm not sure here because you feel that one or the other is easily capable of cocking the game up. I think it will be an open match, maybe with a few goals and if the over 2.25 price was better, I'd maybe have a nibble. As it is, I'm happy to leave alone.

France Ligue 1 – Angers v Toulouse Preview (21/10/17)

Match Preview

Angers look a bit short to me here. I actually rate Toulouse as the better team so to see Angers close to odds-on surprises me. That said, there's not that much difference between either of these teams and no result should be a surprise. I see a draw here but nothing interests me from a betting point of view.

France Ligue 1 – Amiens v Bordeaux Preview (21/10/17)

Match Preview

Match played at a neutral venue (Le Havre). I think Bordeaux will win, but I think their price is very poor, even for allowing the fact that Amiens will have little in the way of advantage here. The visitors are the better team and will likely win. But Bordeaux on a -0.75 or -1 Asian Handicap doesn't appeal to me.

France Ligue 1 – Monaco v Caen Preview (21/10/17)

Match Preview

Monaco aren’t the same team this year, that much is clear. They are still the second best team in France but something is missing for sure. They are struggling in some games they had no problems in last season. The Champions League results are also very concerning, further proof that this isn’t the same sort of team. It wasn’t so long ago that they were easily beating the likes of Strasbourg and Lille. This fixture against Caen is perhaps similar, but today's opponents can dig in and defend well. Caen do have limitations that will probably be their downfall today. Monaco might cover a -1.5 handicap, but on the back of a Champions League match I can’t be fully sure about them. This might be a lower scoring sort of grinder and Monaco forced to work hard for victory.

France Ligue 1 – Montpellier v Nice Preview (15/10/17)

Match Preview

Last season I would've been really excited about this fixture. Montpellier and Nice were two of the most exciting sides in Ligue 1. Not too much has changed with Nice and they are a good watch, but now that Michel Der Zakarian has taken charge at Montpellier they are a much more negative side. This was to be expected. He is a tactical coach who prefers to focus on defensive rigidity and discipline. A whopping 7 out of 8 Montpellier matches have ended under 2.5 goals this season and this is no coincidence.

Der Zakarian is however always very good serting up against the top teams. They held PSG and Monaco to recent draws, which were fully deserved. Now they face another top three team from last season in Nice and I don't expect much to change tactically. The pitch here at Le Stade Mosson has been very poor recently and it will hinder Nice’s technical players. The visitors are the better team but I expect them to suffer at times today. I don’t think much will separate the two come the final whistle, and I anticipate a draw. All the betting lines look relatively close to where they should be and I don’t fancy getting involved here.

France Ligue 1 – Bordeaux v Nantes Preview (15/10/17)

Match Preview

I noticed Gary Lineker tweet the other day ‘Claudio Ranieri is doing a great job at Nantes, he couldn’t do it again could he?’ Well, the answer is obviously no, there is no way that PSG wont win Ligue 1 this year. However, Ranieri deserves a lot of praise for turning a mediocre squad into what is currently a top six team. Nantes have won 5 of their last 6 fixtures and kept clean sheets in the majority of those contests. They are very defensively secure, work very hard and play in a simplistic way. The same 4-4-2 that served him so well at Leicester is being employed here.

Bordeaux had been going extremely well prior to losing 6-2 at PSG last time out. I think we can forgive them that loss, but I did question beforehand exactly what they had beaten. Their run of fixtures had been quite favourable and in many ways we will learn more about them today than anything else. This is an Atlantic derby between a couple of fierce rivals and who are two of the better teams in Ligue 1 right now.

I think it’ll be a really tight fixture and not much will separate either come the final whistle, in my eyes it’s a 0-0 contender. Bordeaux look a little short to be around the 1.67 mark, but I am really surprised under 2.25 is offered so generously. I am not often an under backer but I just don’t see how this game opens up. Nantes have become an under machine under Ranieri and Bordeaux will struggle to break them down.

Prediction: 0-0

Recommended bet: Under 2.25 goals @2.01 (minimum odds acceptable 1.70)
