After a rather disappointing start to the season, Tours roared into life last week thanks to a superb 4-1 win against Niort away TFC produced a scintillating first half performance to have the game won by the interval and maybe they can use that match as a springboard. I have to say prior to that fixture, Tours didn’t really impress me much this season. Then again, let's look at who they actually faced - a Niort side who look awful right now. I’m not sure an awful lot can be taken from that affair and this will be a much more challenging match. With the exception of centre back Cyriaque Louvion who is ruled out, the same XI will probably be fielded here.
The visitors are unbeaten and have done alright so far, without being anything special. They played quite well in the end to beat off Red Star on Monday night. But they’ve yet to really set the world alight with any displays. Maybe this will be typical of them with Michel der Zakarian in charge. The ex Nantes boss is more about the result than style of performance. Especially away from home, the main objective will be to keep things tight and preserve a clean sheet. MDZ will probably work along the lines of win at home and draw away. To be honest, it’s not a bad philosophy at this level in order to obtain promotion. Reims are missing quite a lot of attacking players here, including both wingers Chavarria & Diego Rigonato. They could definitely lack some firepower and creativity tonight.
Conclusion & betting analysis
This is another tough match to call and is capable of going either way really. A couple of weeks ago I'd have leaned strongly towards Reims, but I think you have to respect Tours a bit following their 4-1 win last week. Add in the fact Reims are heading into this match off the back of a short week, considering they played on Monday night means that this isn’t a straightforward away win. I think a tight game is in order, most Reim’s away games under MDZ will be lower scoring, that's just the way he operates. I don’t see an edge in any betting market and combined with low confidence of outcome I’m quite happy to leave this alone.
